Guest guest
I worked for 9 years with closed head injuries including stroke patients and I see no similarities with apraxia. I would look more for older apraxic kids. But don't get discouraged 5 isn't that old. How long has she been in speech therapy? Also the public schools are required to make an education available for your daughter even if she remains non-verbal. That includes either learning signs or providing her with an aide that can sign if necessary. There may be some communication devices that would work but again 5 seems young to me. Maybe just do another year of pre-school and see how she is doing next year. It is getting more and more common for parents to delay school for an extra year so she will not be much older or probably not even the oldest. On the other hand if she is ready to learn let her go for it. Once she can read and write she can use spell boards and writing to communicate. Best of luck.
