We've infused at home for over 3 years now. The nurse comes to our house,

starts the infusion, and stays for the first hour to monitor vitals. I take

the needle out myself.

At first, the nurse stayed the entire time. We were scared about doing it

at home since we'd had a lot of problems at the doctor's office. After a

few treatments, we were comfortable with the nurse coming to start the line

and staying for awhile, leaving, and then coming back to remove the line.

Finally, I learned to remove the line myself. It wasn't all that bad. Now,

I hand my 6yo dd the flushes in the proper order and she removes the needle

herself.

Ah, the freedom of home infusions!!!!! I can't say enough how much we

prefer them to office treatments. We get the same nurse almost all the

time. She knows us and she knows Rebekah, so Rebekah is much less anxious

about the pokes. After the line is in, she can go along to errands, stay

home and watch TV, or nap in her own bed.

We were terrified about starting home infusions at first, but it is a huge

blessing now! On our 3rd anniversary with the home health company, they

brought over pizza for lunch and delivered presents for a surprise party!

They are like family now.

And home treatment is much cheaper than an office treatment! Use that with

your insurance company!

I was wondering if any of your children have their infusions at home.

My husband is switching school districts and we may have to go to in

home healthcare for 's infusions.

Hi, Christy!

I am glad to hear that 's health problems were identified and that she is

being treated. I hope that she is starting to feel much better.

My daughter was diagnosed with CVID -- after a long period of not knowing what

was going on. Her quality of life improved so much with IVIG but we chose to

swith to SCIG (subcutaneous infusions) at home. For her, they are much safer

(no more migraines/fevers and no vein needed) and it has " normalized " her life.

There are a few kiddos here who have trialed off of IVIG for various reasons.

Many ended up back on IgG therapy but a few are still doing okay with supportive

anti-microbials only. So, to answer your question: it just really depends. =

)

I have learned so much from being a part of this group -- and still learn new

things all of the time!

Welcome!

come to your house and stay for the whole infusion? I am a little

nervous about changing. Our dr. may be able to work something out

with the insurance company, but you know how they can

be.Argggghhhhhh!!!! Thanks and have a blessed day!!!!

Hi,

We also do our infusions at home...for 5 years now. We have had the same nurse

for five years and she stays for the entire infusion. It is wonderful. She

works with our schedule so that we try to fit our treatments in on school days

off and she comes in the afternoon so that my son only misses 1/2 of a day.

Good luck!

Ashton receives her infusions at home, and always has. We are lucky, and have

always had the same nurse. She started IVIG over two years ago. We receive all

the supplies via FedEx. US BioServices supplies the pump, IVIG, tubing, etc..

Bayada Home Health sends the nurse. US Bio are the ones who hire the nurse, so

we only receive one bill. We have never had any problems. Ashton has a port,

and the nurse follows sterile proceedure. She enjoys her time with the nurse.

She is like part of the family.

Hi,

My son has been getting his ivig treatments at home for 18 months now. It

is WONDERFUL!!! The same nurse comes every 28 days, and feels like part of

our family now. The supplies are fedex'd from the pharmacy the day before. We

haven't had any problems. The nurse comes Friday night after dinner (our

choice) so Tim infuses while watching a movie and vegging on the couch. He

usually falls asleep. We don't have to drive anywhere, worry about hospital

germs, etc.
