Guest guest
Diane, My daughter also has the DynaMyte which the school district purchased for her use. This came about after an evaluation of which augmentative device is appropriate for her. The school owns it, but we have possession of it at all time. The DynaMyte is written right into my daughter's IEP under " Aids, Services and Accommodations. " There's no reason why you should have to purchase it from the school. I would question them on that - it's already been paid for so obviously the money was there. If they have found that this is the appropriate augmentative device for in order for him to access FAPE (Free and Appropriate Education), then they must provide it for him. I would ask them to show you where in the IDEA does it state the rule that you, as a parent, must pay for this augmentative device. We use my daughter's DynaMyte at home for homework and socialization (all part of education). It's ridiculous that they would expect it to stay in school - practicing communication is homework, don't you think? I would highly suggest contacting DynaVox and asking them about the training seminars for your son's Dynamyte. Not only will it give you an insight as to how the DynaMyte can be used, but it would be helpful in meeting other parents and professionals to see how things are done in other school districts. There should be local training seminars in your area. Good luck. Vicky ----- Original Message ----- Its been awhile since I wrote......I last wrote when I was trying to figure out how to buy the dynmate (voice device) for my son . My insurance has denied it and the dr didn't fall threw in appealing it. So the school went ahead and bought it (for school use only), They offered me to buy it off them ($7000.00) with a payment plan for the next two years. I figured out $300 for the next 24 months (were am I suppose to get that kind of money?
