Guest guest
Hi Mauri! Thanks for posting this to the group-based on some of the confusions since there is so much going on that day for NJSHA and with the dinner and the producer and all -and the confusion over what is free and what is not -I sent this out to the group to clarify it all (I hope!) Please feel free to pass it to whoever is not on our grouplist if you want. Talk to you later -and see you again soon!! From: " kiddietalk " <kiddietalk@...> Date: Sun Apr 28, 2002 11:14 pm Subject: Re: Kaufman/new documentary -this Thursday May 2 Thanks Mauri! I just wanted to clarify a few points from your email based on some emails I was sent over the weekend. The CHERAB Kaufman meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the Atlantic City Convention Center is free of charge. This is an awesome opportunity to those of you who have not had the pleasure to see Kaufman http://www.kidspeech.com - she is an excellent speaker with a wealth of information not only on the Kaufman technique/Kaufman Speech Kits/Kaufman Praxis Test used in schools and by therapists and parents all over - she has a wealth of basic information on how to help any late talker child. Normally even as a parent you would need to pay to see Kaufman speak -as an advisor to CHERAB Foundation, has generously agreed to speak for CHERAB or affiliated support groups or nonprofits free of charge. is from Michigan and I know quite a few parents who flew out with their families to Michigan, and stayed in hotels, to see Kaufman to help their late talker/apraxic/PDD etc. child who rave about her -this is a wonderful opportunity to see K. locally, and have the chance to ask her questions -and in a beautiful location. Where the confusion is coming in is what is not free of charge. The New Jersey Speech Hearing Association (NJSHA) Kaufman all day workshop that is held on the same day and in the same location is a fee based registered event through NJSHA. It is very important to be sure and state that you are interested in the CHERAB meeting when you go to the NJSHA registration table this Thursday -May 2nd. So as not to confuse the workshop and the meeting, when you go to the NJSHA registration table on Thursday -I was told to pass on to all of you to please be sure to ask for specifically the CHERAB Foundation meeting since it may assumed you are looking for the Kaufman workshop if you just ask for the Kaufman event. After the NJSHA Kaufman all day (fee charged) workshop through NJSHA ends at 5:00 PM and before the (free) CHERAB meeting starts at 6:30 PM (and again one has nothing to do with the other than NJSHA being kind enough to host the room for our meeting) CHERAB Foundation will be paying for Kaufman's dinner as a thank you for her speaking to all of us probono. We can not however afford to pay for everyone else's dinner -so if you would like to join us at the restaurant you will be on your own for paying for whatever you order. There is no fundraiser affiliated with the dinner (or the free meeting of course) and if the restaurant doesn't mind you just ordering coffee (not sure and didn't ask -sure they wouldn't be thrilled if we all did that however) -we certainly don't either. You do not have to attend the dinner to attend the meeting -and you really don't need to RSVP to go to the restaurant -except if you don't let us know you would like to go to the restaurant with us, we can not of course guarantee that you will sit anywhere near the rest of us at the restaurant -or that there will be a seat anywhere in the restaurant for you. Some of us from CHERAB were just filmed for a TV documentary last Saturday which will air next Fall -there is another producer who is filming a different documentary on apraxia who will join all of us for dinner with Kaufman for interviews -I'm not yet sure if she is bringing any film crew -but just an FYI so if you want to look nice for those who wouldn't mind being interviewed. So it should be an interesting dinner in many ways. The producer will also be there for the (again free) CHERAB meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 PM as well. Even though this is a CHERAB meeting -again it is open to all groups or nonprofits and is being held here in place of the regular CHERAB meeting at the Children's Specialized Hospital. So again to make it clear -only the CHERAB Foundation Kaufman meeting from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM is free of charge. Dinner costs whatever it would anyway and we have nothing to do with that other than getting head counts so we can make reservations so we can all sit together. We are only requesting an RSVP again for the meeting as a courtesy since NJSHA is kind enough to donate the space to us - and they need to have a count for room, chairs, etc. So last minute people may have to stand in the back of the room -and there is of course the possibility that we will be booked in a room based on the number of RSVPs we give NJSHA that for fire law reasons will not even allow you in to the meeting last minute if we don't know you are planning to attend. Those with RSVPs will be allowed in first -and is kind enough to offer to make name badges for all of us. Even if you are already registered for the NJSHA Kaufman all day workshop you we are asking for you to please RSVP to us separately since again one event has nothing to do with the other. You again do not have to go to dinner to come to the meeting. Being that the meeting is this Thursday -please let us know right away if you decide to join us! Most of this information (outside of the producer for the documentary) is at http://www.apraxia.cc under upcoming events (on the top blue bar) To answer another question I'm seeing lots of - you do not need to qualify to attend -or ask if you can attend. At this point there are people coming from all over NJ and many surrounding states, from various support groups or nonprofits -all (again) are welcome. If you would like to attend the meeting then all we ask for is an RSVP for headcount reasons -and we are looking forward to finally meeting more of you and having a great time and learning more on how to help our children! =====
