Guest guest
Hello Eileen My sounds nasally all the time. The slp mentioned that all his air leaks through his nose. She asked that we have him see a ENT, but have not gotten in yet. He had severe reflux as a infant & toddler, everything would run right out his nose when changing diaper or when my older ones would forget a play a bit rough with him. I will let you know what the ENT finds out???? tammy I. ----- Original Message ----- Hi All, I just wondered if anyone else has noticed with their children a nasally type voice. My son Jack Always sounds nasally! He does not appear to have allergies, does not sneeze, cough etc. Just sounds nasally. I had asked his Dr. and he said that some children may sound nasally. I just wonder if with his apraxia, if his intellegbility is related. Thanks everyone, Eileen
Guest guest
Hi Eileen, Yes, I have noticed that always has a nasal quality to her voice - her SLP doesn't find it to be that nasal - she says everyone has a different nasality. Maybe she sounds more nasal to me because it seems like when she talks to me she is constantly whining - but I'll take the whining, I'm grateful she's talking so much Barbara
Guest guest
Re: the nasal sound, there is a problem that is diagnosed by ENT usually called submucous cleft palate. Just a thought. Our son was checked for this when he had PE tubes placed about a year ago but he did not have it. He has a high palate but not a submucous cleft. Daphne Tammy wrote: My sounds nasally all the time. Guest guest
Hi Tammy, THanks, I actually am making a appt. with the ent today, per order of his pediatrican, by the way his 3yr. visit to him was today, and it is the first with him. We just recently moved and the other ped. we use to go to I mentioned the nasaly thing to him and he just told me at the time that some children are just nasally but I always felt something was not right. So I guess you could say it was refreshing to have the new dr. at first visit give me the name of someone to send him to right away! But then again this dr. was recomended to me by a mom whose son has special needs. So it is true that some dr's are better with special needs children and their families!!!! Thanks again I will let you know how our visit goes. --- Tammy Ingram <tammyplus4@...> wrote: > Hello Eileen > > My sounds nasally all the time. Guest guest
There are all kinds of potential problems with the soft palate, we are looking into the velopharengeal insuffieciency or VLI.
