Guest guest
Thank you for all of that info. Just a quick question, what if your pediatrician won't prescribe Nystantin? We have our infant on it right now for thrush but I don't think Bradys dr will prescribe it to him based on our reasoning. She has the " wait and see what early intervention does " attitude. Thank you again Donna Mommy to Brady 29 months and Connor 7 weeks
Guest guest
I would love some info on yeast testing and anything else that might help get me started. Thank you. To answer your question, bradys ped recommended an evaluation-who in turn put us in the " early intervention " direction for speech therapy which he is now getting. He's been in speech therapy (1x week) for about 4 months without any improvement with his speech. The therapist likes to make him sit through puzzles (she said she's working on his attention, making him sit through tasks) and she'll make him sit and draw, etc..he enjoys the time there but gets mad because he doesn't want to sit. He'll interact with the therapist if she wants to throw a ball around or something active but he's totally uncooperative otherwise SO of course we're not getting very far. I think it would be less of a problem if all the rooms didn't look like a big toy store. (She also thinks " maybe " PDD but that he could be " too active " to take the time to learn to talk....i don't know about that one). He also started a group session a month ago (2 1/2hrs 1x week) and he loves it! He still doesn't like to sit for activities but will play any active game with the other kids, he likes to be chased and to chase them. Still no improvement in speech though. Thanks again. Donna Mommy to Brady 29 months and Connor 7 weeks PS. my point in telling you all that is that our Ped. just wants to wait and see what early intervention can do. Guest guest
Hi, Donna. Interesting stuff about Brady's activity level. Wiley is very much the same way. I don't need to go into detail as he pretty much resembles Brady. Wiley is 30 months old, close in age. I wonder if gross motor comes more easily than fine motor control, if this is linked to speech problems ?? I wonder too if that is why signing is supposed to be so helpful - that if you approach the motor issues with signing first, helping your child approximate certain signs, if that's why it appears to be helpful as a building block towards language. Since it is addressing the motor issue in a separate yet linked way which may be easier for a child. Anyway, Wiley is mildly globally delayed - more at a 23 month old's range than a 2 1/2 year old's range. The difference is pretty apparent in playgroups. I think it's good for Wiley to be in a more mature group of children as they serve as good models (meaning children his age without delays.) So in a way Wiley is just behaving for where he is at developmentally - appropriate to his stage of development more than his actual age, almost as if he were a preemie. I try in engaging him to use the floor model of play. I let him lead, then I expand, using a lot of pretend play to set in motion certain movements I want to work on, whether it's turning his hands or using his hands together, etc. It is also very helpful in terms of language as we use a lot of repetition in our play - staying on a theme that he finds humorous, like the little people farmer kicking the pig out of his bed and so on. Just some thoughts - like Brady, telling Wiley to string beads or whatever is just not a go. I have to be pretty creative with his toys...
