Guest guest
Our 11yr. old son is high functioning autistic. For the past week he has been " seeing things " . He describes them as demon like creatures. DS is not on any meds so that is not the cause. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? We are beginning to wonder if he is developing schizophrenia or something.
Guest guest
Hi , I am sorry to hear this. When my son first began having problems, when he was only about 3 years old, he would run from me and roll on the ground screaming and kicking and fighting me. I thought I must have looked like a monster to him they way he fought me. He did that for years. He was on Valium then, a new drug they thought would help, the dosage got up to 45 mg a day and he was just a little kid. It just about killed him before I took him off, then the withdrawal just about killed him. All I can say is doctors sometimes will make you nuts. All I knew then, and know now, was it my job was to protect him. got pretty bad, I could tell you stories that would make your hair curl about the way he trashed my house, and me, broke things all over the place. What I did was I prayed, and took him to church and had prayer for him there. I has been a long hard battle, but his behavior finally changed for the better. I don't know what happened, but I do know that prayer helped him, and don't think he, or I would be here without it. Drugs never helped my son, just made him worse, all the different ones the doctors prescribed for him, don't ask me why, but we lived it....and we are still here! Guest guest
Hey ...My son was taken from me at the hospital 3 days after I had him in the room with me and he didn't go to the nursery not one time. DHR came and took him from me and put him in a foster home. I do not believe in monsters but there is a such thing as demons.. and entities. I had a nervous breakdown after my son was taken from me... Here is what happened. When I was 19 years old I had one attack me and this may sound crazy to some but it did happen. It was like I was above myself and looking down at myself.. I was choking myself and couldn't quit... I couldn't breathe... There was awful noises coming out of my mouth sounding like a different language... Then there was peaceful soothing noises coming out. It was as if the devil and God was in a battle for my soul. I was put in a mental hospital for 4 months and was so doped up I didn't know who I was or that I had a baby. What brought me out of it all was a lady that I had worked with at the nursing home came to work at the hospital I was at and I started remembering everything and I begin to improve and got to go home. Things happen for a reason. Take him to church have him prayed for and also have your house blessed. And come to think of it... my son said something to the effect that there was monsters on other side of my bed last night. I told him there is no such thing as monsters but there is a such thing as demons.. I had watched A Haunting last night and I felt convicted of it and deleted all of the recordings from my DVR. A woman had a demonic possession and a priest blessed her house and her with an exercism. The woman on the show said.. that demons never forget you once they have had you before and they try to find ways to get back in. Needless to say I won't be watching anymore of them shows. I Know we as parents have to be careful with what we say and do as well as what we watch and how we act. See if having your house blessed with holy water and your son prayed for helps. I am planning on doing the same.Carolyn <charper777@...> wrote: Hi , I am sorry to hear this. Guest guest
For a while now our son has spoken of seeing people in his room at night..He does not seem to have a great fear of them, but there is a " group " of people that he says " come to him " ..and they (the group) do get made at him when he will not talk to them. He has spoken several times of my father and conversations they have has...My father past away 10 years ago...My son is 6yo and there for never even met my father, yet he seems to have information about my dad that none of us can remember ever talking about. He says that Grandpa takes him fishing...I never mentioned this to our pediatrician for fear that they would suggest putting him on more meds....There are kids with gifts I believe..some call them indigo children...We have researched it a bit and do find some similarities with Aspergers children. Just a thought.. Andi > > Our 11yr. old son is high functioning autistic. For the past week he > has been " seeing things " . Guest guest
Dear , Well I hadn't thought of this for so many years, and as a child, when I was trying to sleep at night, I would see horrible monster faces, grotesque things. I don't know when it started, and somehow I keep having this feeling about other things, as a child, that it was after 5, when I had a smallpox vaccination. I never told my parents about these monsters, and no matter how tight I shut my eyes they were still there, vividly. It always took me a long time to fall asleep, because of it. At some point they stopped. At least he's telling you about it. I don't think he's schizophrenic; I think heavy metals and toxic substances affect things. It's springtime. You might ask at his school if they've put pesticide or chemicals, weedkillers, on the grass, or perhaps a neighbour? Francine In a message dated 5/15/2008 1:43:27 A.M. Guest guest
Hi, My son claimed to 'see' and 'hear' a wide variety of creatures/voices beginning at the age of 3 and continuing until he was 5. In our situation, it was a combination of foods which we had to remove (no processed foods at all), switching our milk to raw goat milk (which I credit for the 'cure'), as well as finding out that another kid on the school bus was " torturing " our son, according to the bus driver, filling his head with Harry Pottery stories along with telling him that dragons were going to come to him at night and rip his flesh off his bones, etc., etc. The psychiatrists all asked us, " Is your son being exposed to violent books, movies, games....and we kept saying, 'no, no, no' " not knowing that this bullying had been going on on the bus for nearly half a year. Long story short, we pulled him out of PS and are homeschooling him. That, combined with diet, made a huge difference. Even if it is schizophrenia, diet makes a HUGE difference, as more and more research is showing that bipolar and schizophrenia respond very well to whole-food, natural, organic diets that are rich in amino acids - the very things that are often missing from bi-polars and schizophrenics. I have articles I can send to you which address the nutrition aspect. If you've had EKGs, MRIs, BEAMS and have been cleared of seizures, brain tumors, etc., the next thing you could ask for is a blood panel showing your son's nutritional levels. In that way, you'll have a direction on how to treat his nutritional imbalances. I have a small, private nutritional group for special needs/autism, and if you're interested in joining us to get other information, just let me know. HTH! Guest guest
This is an old topic but I want to respond because I'm dealing with the same thing. My son has High Fx Autism and we've just been dumped by our regional center because his adaptability score are 70 (cut off is 69 or less). So we lost funding for a very stressful therapy called ABA. But, maybe it is a blessing in disguise. My 6 year old son began having hallucinations just after starting this VERY stressful therapy. He was always delusional and had disorganized thoughts (thinking all who speak, even the TV, are talking to him, that people are laughing and plotting against him, that he IS the god of thunder) and actions (like trying to undress by taking his underware off before his pants, trying to put a sock on an already socked foot, getting lost in our 1500 sq ft home, etc...). These can be subtle like my son's or more elaborate like in the movie, " A beautiful mind. " Early Onset Schizophrenia is caused by too much of the neuro-transmitter Dopamine just as Parkinson's disease is caused by too little Dopimine (my dad has had this for 32 years). Schizophrenia is a real physical disease (not to say that some who believe in demons or as one person said was attacked by a demon before giving birth are wrong). Schizophrenia (or taking medicine that results in having too much Dopamine in the brain) has three major symptoms: Hallucination (directly correlated with stress level), delusions (seeing secret codes in the " letter & number of the Day " on sesame street), disorganized thoughts or actions. Schizophrenia is also mutually exclusive to autism. The DSM4 states that to have Schizophrenia the doctor has to rule-out Autism and to have Autism the doctor has to rule-out Schizophrenia. So, if your child is having hallucinations (auditory, visual or tactile), but is not delusional or have disorganized thoughts and actions you may want to talk to the child psychiatrist to see if any of the medicines he is taking such as Risperdone (FDA approved for ASD kids) affect the levels of Dopamine in the brain. He may be overdosing and getting hallucinations (My dad had two medicines that caused hallucinations that we had to monitor closely so that he didn't hallucinate). If you feel that it is not medicine induced then I suggest going to well thought of child Psychiatrist in your area or in a more populated area and having him evaluated for his unique symptoms. My son is in the middle of Psychiatric tests to see if he has Schizophrenia or both ASD & Schizophrenia (very very rare). Schizophrenia and Autism affect the same areas of the brain and are hard to tease out from each other since the " Negative " symptoms of Schizophrenia include withdrawal, disorganized thoughts and actions and zoning out. Plus, the " positive " symptoms of Schizophrenia include hallucinations, delusions and visions of grandeur. I hope the best for you as I hope others hope for the best Dx in my situation. We are just now getting to know the " Mental Health " groups of support and advice and advocacy. There is a stigma still with mental illness that no longer exsist with Autism. I hope this helps.
