Guest guest
Why hasn't he had a full evaluation done through the public schools? My son had an OT evaluation (sounds like he has gross motor issues), speech/language (pragmatics are huge issues with our kids), assisted technology (some kids do better with word processing board, like a DANA). My son even qualified for a neuro-psych that the school paid for, so they found out all about his lack of executive functioning. Good luck, Jodie (CA)Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. Actually he officially has had a full SPED evaluation, but it in reality was very limited. Schools can decide the evaluations are not necessary if the child is " successful in the classroom " and " accessing the curriculum " . And if your child's academic ability level is considerably above grade-level, it is hard to prove otherwise. It took me a long time just to get my son considered for a 504, and I don't know if the IEP will ever happen (although I am still trying). We'd be nowhere if I didn't get our own evaluations done and set up our own intervention plan privately. I'm not saying this is right, but it would cost much more in legal fees than it does just to take care of it ourselves (assuming you have good insurance, which we do). I think about what it must be like for people without good health insurance or a huge budget all the time (and feel very thankful).
