Guest guest
I must have missed the original post. Could someone explain this to me? It seems that if a child is being disruptive in a classroom and cannot be calmed (as sometimes happens with autistic kids) why would removing them from the classroom until they can calm down be a bad thing - so long as it is supervised. Under these circumstances I wouldn't object if my son were put in one. Obviously, I'm missing something if this is considered illegal. We have laws in Canada that prohibit even priests being alone with parishioners of the of opposite sex so there is no liability. There are similar laws governing counsellors and social workers. Perhaps, this is part of the issue? Guest guest
Here is the original post .. I know that when I originally asked a few weeks ago about these kind of injustices towards our children it was hard for many to respond as it brought back old memories. It was easy for the child that is no longer here to respond - he ended his life. This is not something I 'want to' post about or wanted to even look at. After receiving several hundred responses from parents about this going on at their schools ( I have them and they keep pouring in ), I then added Mandatory Jail Sentences for those that put our children into this kind of Jeopardy into the Autism Reform Act of 2009. I'm sure most all of you have seen the CNN reports : http://www.cnn. com/2008/ US/12/17/ seclusion. rooms/index. html MAKE THIS PUNISHABLE - Prison Sentence Automatic for exposing our kids to this .. is within the Autism Reform ACT of 2009. http://www.change. org/ideas/ view/accept_ and_sign_ the_autism_ reform_act_ of_2009 I don't even want to begin going into this as it brings back bad memories for many - but this is TODAY's TRUTH. It was the Truth the day I originally asked about Illegal Time Out across the , and it will still be the truth tomorrow unless we do something about this as a nation. WE CAN. This is America - we have the ability to vote. As long as we continue to turn our heads at the 'hard questions' they will revisit us just as this did. To the 100's of parents that responded offlist and to the 1000's that did on, Thank you for being bold enough to tell me what, when, and where - now maybe CNN can use some of this information and uncover some of this. Either way it will revisit us... So please vote to END this for once and for All - NO MORE DEBATE: http://www.change. org/ideas/ view/accept_ and_sign_ the_autism_ reform_act_ of_2009 Now those that questioned my intent know it was not for my self satisfaction or to do a morbid study. It's because I personally have closed down dozens of these rooms in 5 diff. states.. what about the other 45 ? LETS MAKE IT A CRIME to put these kids in these tortuous rooms. Time Out can be used with a room divider and a chair. What you see in that CNN Report is exactly what I saw when I shut them down, and exactly what I wanted to find out about when I asked about them.... For at least one child it is too late.. it doesn't have to be too late for the next one. With all Sincerity, E. , Sr. The Office of Advocacy for Autistic Childre Please go and register, comment to vote & Let others know ASAP to do the same (Add this link to your email sig. for the next 5 weeks if you can.....for the kids) http://www.change.org/ideas/view/accept_and_sign_the_autism_reform_act_of_2009 > > > > Listmembers, > > > > I originally posted the question regarding Time Out Rooms (which are > > highly illegal), Illegal use of restraint, abuse, etc. in our kids > > schools across the nation as it was suggested by a staffer that's part > > of the Transitional team for our new Presidential Admin. that it would > > help to get a proposal for a Bill/ACT on Obama's desk in late Jan. . >
Guest guest
I personally would not allow my son to attend a school with a time out room, Sensory Rooms where children can calm down and are MONITORED are quite legal.. locking a child into a room with paper over the windows, no ventilation, and nobody watching leads to what CNN just reported 2 days ago - the possiblity and reality of DEATH. And this isn't the first time at all. In America we have a thing called a BIP.. A behavior Intervention plan..and it must be approved by the parents. It has to have the least restrictive type of supports when the child starts to get upset. It can't be " oh the child is making too much noise and is disruptive so were going to put him in...whatever..a Cell as we've seen on TV and as reported to me by multiple parents. It's not about the opposite sex being in there with them..it's about NOBODY watching while children pull their hair out, bite at themselves, and sometimes use something the teacher gave the to hang themselves. Now.. I don't think there is anything missing from this picture. Thank you, E. , Sr. > > > > Listmembers, > > > > I originally posted the question regarding Time Out Rooms (which are > > highly illegal), Illegal use of restraint, abuse, etc. in our kids > > schools across the nation as it was suggested by a staffer that's part > > of the Transitional team for our new Presidential Admin. that it would > > help to get a proposal for a Bill/ACT on Obama's desk in late Jan. . >
