Saul- his appetite was minimal before this, and he is beyond thin,

now he won't eat at ALL last 2 days (chewed a bone twice but only

after other dog took meat off it) and his back end is weak and

wobbly.

I gave him some flax oil and cottage cheese the last few days and

put kale and chard and liquified in a syringe today. His gums are

pink when he is inside, but he sits out in the snow with the snow

piling on him and then I make him come in, his gums are pale.

It seems it might be the food that makes him tremor. He hadn't been

the last couple days, now tremoring again- he looks naseaus and like

he is really feeling like shit. Without the food, he hasn't had a

normal bowel movement in weeks.

with this protocol do you really think I can help him?

my husband is concerned if he is in pain.

thanks for any input.

wendy,

Have you tried feeding your dog any kind of internal organs? Raw

liver, kidney and heart are some of the most nourishing organ meats,

which will provide your dog with some of the most concentrated, easily

assimilated nutrition he can consume, even in small amounts. Liver,

particularly from cows, or better yet calves, is a great source of

iron, which it sounds like your dog could really use right about now.

And squishy raw organ meats (particularly things like liver, kidney,

pancreas etc.) are notorious for helping things move along more

rapidly in a dog's bowel, and might even help to get him pooping. Raw

eggs can do the same. Do you think he might be tempted to lap up

maybe at least a yolk or two? Eggs are also very nourishing, and if

your guy is willing to eat some, the fat in the yolks will provide him

with a readily available source of energy. A bit of cod liver oil or

fish body oil can also be drizzled over the egg to add even more high

quality nourishment as well as fat.

If this were my dog, I would try to stick to offering him raw animal

based foods, rather than dairy or vegetable sourced foods. From what

I understand, since dogs are nearly identical to wolves (which are

considered opportunistic carnivores) with regards to their internal

anatomy and physiology, raw flesh and animal sourced foods are most

likely much more easily and readily assimilate-able by their systems

than dairy or veggie based foods.

If you do offer him some raw liver or heart etc. but he still seems

reluctant to eat them, you can even try searing them ever so slightly,

just on the outside, with some butter in a pan on low heat, which will

bring out their flavor and aroma to the point where he just might be

tempted to take a bite or two.

Sounds to me like it's really important for your boy to start eating,

and to get some good quality nutrition in him so he can get some of

his strength back to help him deal with whatever is making him ill.

If you haven't tried offering him any raw organ meat or eggs recently,

considering how nourishing pound for pound they are, maybe it would

be worth a try.

My heart goes out to you and your dog. I'm really sorry he (and you!)

has been having such a rough time of it, and I sure do hope he turns a

corner for the better soon.

I also know of an excellent homeopath who works with animals remotely,

with whom I'd be happy to put you in touch if you're interested.

Good luck, and please let us know how he does,

elan
