I thought it was determined that if a post was going to be about religion, it was going to say it in the subject line. This subject 'was just blessed" could have meant that something wonderful happened with their child! I want to read and post about Autism and Aspergers Treatment....aren't there groups that are specifically about religion where people can post??

So now my question...does anyone have a child that is totally mainstreamed who has problems getting homework done? What do you do and how do you handle it? I keep getting told that my son (who is in 7th grade) has to do homework, because if he is college bound (which I think he might be able to handle), then he needs to do homework now so he will know what to expect as the years progress.

I had the same problem when he was in 6th and 7th grade. He finally was approved for a private school. They allow time for homework there. If he has an IEP allowances should be made.Autism and Aspergers Treatment From: jcoopalla@...Date: Thu, 1 May 2008 22:07:54 -0400Subject: Re: Was just blessed!

I am sorry you are offended Jodie, thought "just blessed" would alert others to the content of my message, and just seeing my name should alert most people by now about who I am and where I am coming from. Anyway it is a free country and we do have freedom of speech in this country. I can see where no one person should get too carried away talking about their religion, but see nothing at all wrong with a reference to one's faith from time to time.

One thing to consider is maybe some people are seeking help, and don't have all the answers in this department yet, as I once was seeking. I would say it doesn't hurt to keep an open mind, some things have been working for thousands of years.....

As to the mainstreaming, yes my son was a part of it when it first became a fad. He had been in a private school for some years, and then was mainstreamed into a public high school, and it was a disaster actually. I tried to tell them I didn't think he was going to like the noise and commotion there in high school, just the sound of a locker slamming could throw him into a seizure, and they did. He never did adjust and his behaviors got about as bad as possible with fits and raging and tantrums. I am sure he didn't really want to hurt anybody, was just trying to protect himself from the noise and confusion, but they labeled him non-compliant, violent, and aggressive.

And I was labeled as a dumb mom trying to keep him from things, labeling and prejudice was big, and mothers never know anything. So I went to college and got a bachelor's and a master's, as I was tired of being treated like I didn't know anything. It was a lot of hard work for 6 years of my life, and after that I was way more "educated" than most of them were, and that helped me some.

After that I knew how dumb they were, and how smart I always had been by having a simple mother's love, and knowing my job was to love and protect my son, sorry to say, but from THEM a lot of the times.

Sad but true.

So I took him out of school, and he has not been back since age 18, lives at home with me and his violence has been gone for years. He is 43 now and we are fine here, with God's help we have learned what is important.

I mean whatcha gonna do if the doctors, teachers, etc. etc. DO NOT HELP you, where you gonna turn to!

I chose, and I turned, and I am not sorry one bit, so I will share when I can with others, have even written a book about my whole life story called "Why Didn't Anybody Ever Tell Me About This! A Mother's Search for a Living God" Some here have read it and enjoyed it.

Thank you for the comments Carolyn. I enjoyed all of it. As a Strong

Born Again Christian it is hard to seperate God from or other terms

of faith in converstations. It just flows out the mouth or on to the

keyboard before you know it. Keep up the good work.

I hope you realize just how forunate you are.

Autism and Aspergers Treatment From: paohlaw@...Date: Wed, 14 May 2008 08:06:26 -0700Subject: Re: Was just blessed!

My son is also in 7th and is fully mainstreamed. The school has really worked with me on "homework". Their philosphy is that at long as he is learning the material, they are not concerned with whether he does 10 problems or 100 problems, as long as he is showing a conceptual grasp of the material. Now of course there are some teachers that are less willing to concede than others. My son's school is on an "A-day" "B-day" schedule, so he has one full period of content mastery every other day. If he is having a hard time with something, then he is sent to content mastery. If he is having a really bad day (like today) they will email or fax me the work and we will do it at home. For the most part, because he is PDD and ADHD, his teachers modify his workload anyway by either giving him more time, (one teacher never takes points off for being late), reducing the number of problems he has to do, sending the work to CMC directly and letting them work on it with him, etc. We are fortunate in that regard.
