Guest guest
Hi marie,Hopefully you got the instructions file (attached). When you open TLC7a, it opens Excel, and in many cases it will produce some " warnings " and buttons near the top of the screen. If you are asked to enable content and accept functionality (or something like that--two buttons to click on my system the first time I use it). If you don't do that, all the functions built into the file are blocked, so clicking the Assessment button will have no effect. If you are already using XP, you don't need to run in compatibility mode. You're already in it.Try opening the file again and keep an eye out for those Enable buttons and click them. Let me know if this works--or doesn't work--for you, and we'll track down the problem. As far as I know, it should work fine in Excel 2003. When I press the assessment button nothing happens. I am using Windows XP service pack 3 and excel 2003. As you describe in the guide I tried to set the Windows XP compatibility mode. This was not possible, because there was no Windows XP SP3 window? Could anyone help me with this problem. Guest guest
marie I use a very old version of excel on my mac. I had to download some updates for excel from the microsoft support site. If you google the exact problem you are having and any error messagers that might pop up you should find links to any applicable updated. Not sure if this would resolve you problem but it is worth a try. Guest guest
dear Pete and thank you both very much for your help. I downloaded all the possible updates for excel03 - but unfortunately with no effect on the problem with the tlc7 file. Excel gives the message: this file was created in a newer version of Excel M. The file has been converted to a format you can work with, but the following issues were encountered: - the file has been opened in read-only mode to protect the original file - any effects on this object will be removed. Any text that owerflows the boundaries of this graphic will appear clipped. - uninitialized ActivX controls will be opened on this version of Microsoft Excel. Any ideas? thank you so much! marie > > Dear Pete and groupmembers > I downloaded the new TLC7 4C Assessment file and opened the excel sheet. > When I press the assessment button nothing happens. Guest guest
marie,I fear that the problem is that, in updating the file, we had to choose a cutoff date for backward compatibility. There have been a few people using Office 2003 who have had to update to a newer version for the TLC7 to work. The programming and graphics just can't be handled by the older versions--just as we couldn't use the older versions of the TLC with Office97 or earlier. In most places you can get new Excel Student/Teacher edition for a very low price if you can make a case that you are a student or a teacher--not usually very hard. That should be a fully-operational version of Excel, and the TLC7 should work fully in that.
