" When I was at University of Illinois, which was a Big 10 school, it was like this. The football players would just walk to the front of the lunch line, they all sported gold chains given to them, as well as other gifts, and threw their weight around all over campus, having the cockiest of attitudes. There was talk of their getting passing grades and that they would take classes given by certain teachers because these teachers would pass them. Guest guest
When I was at Northern Illinois University, the basketbnall team lived on my QUIET LIFESTYULE FLOOR. Quiet Lifestyle meant that you could only blast music and make noise on Friday's and Saturdays between 8:00 and 12:00 PM. Once I turned on the radio too early and got written up. (If I did it a second time I would pay a fine and/or risk getting thrown off the floor.) The first time the basketball players blasted their stereos, the Resident Assistant dutifully wrote them up, but then he was told by the Residence Hall Manager NOT to write them up ever again because SHE had been told by " someone higher up " to leave the basketball players alone. I was told this " off the record " by the RA. And I was told this " off the record " by each RA in subsequent years. So those of us who paid extra money to get this special quiet lifestyle floor (and there was a waiting list to get into it, so I could not just leave - I could not study in anything but quiet settings, and on this floor at least I got SOME quiet sometimes) had to endure noise whenever these guys wanted to blast their stereos, BUT we could still get written up if we did the same thing.
