Guest guest
Hi ! A 'ton' is equal to 2,000 pounds. In metric, a ton is about 907 kilograms. And just because details can sometimes be very interesting to know, what is referred to as a ton in American and Canada is actually a 'short' ton. In countries that previously used the metric system (such as Great Britain), a ton is equal to 2,240 pounds and is actually a 'long' ton (for obvious reasons). In kilograms, a long ton about 1,010 kilograms (more or less ... I think it's a little more actually but I'm not certain). A 'metric' tonne is 1,000 kilograms and is spelled slightly differently. When Tom says that a car weighs two tons, that is, indeed, 4,000 pounds and the rest of his math is correct. I know ... more information than you actually wanted to know on the topic of tons. Tons and tons and tons of information on tons and tons and tonnes. :-o Raven > > By that math, 4000 lbs is the weight of the car.
