Guest guest
i have a 14yo son who is half black, half native american, and half white. i know it dont add up, but he is all 3. he was diagnosed last year with AS at a clinic that deals with children and mental/social behavorial problems. at the time of his initial visit he was 13. he had already been labled adhd and had been tried on aderol, but it only made him get in more trouble at school than what he was to start with so we took him off of that and looked for help at another clinic for kids in our area. i have know him for 10 years and in that time he has been a 'hand full'. in any situation it seemed to take an extreem measure or brute force to get him to stop doing what he was doing and then he would argue his side of the story until he thought that he convinced you. timeouts, grounding, taking all his toys and preventing him from seeing his friends never have worked. it was almost like he had a world of his own to go into to get away from all of it. when you talk to him and he is in trouble he mumbles, talks in a mono tone voice, stares through you and splits hairs on every issue. we have taken to making him answer with only a yes or a no on many questions and walking him through his actions and the outcome of his decisions. at 13 he was still wetting the bed, deficating in his pants (said he saw nothing wrong with it), arguing with his 4 yo sister saing things like 'mine, mine, mine, mine' and seeming to be passed by his 7yo brother in maturity levels. he has little intrest in girls(sexually). no sign of body hair to speak of. teritorial of his stuff, but lacking the same respect for others things or space. can not keep his hands to his self. really alot of things that you expect from a 5 yo. on the bright side, he is a very smart kid though. he scores good on all tests, has been in the gifted programs, builds complicated lego projects and completes them in record time, reads alot, enjoys paint ball games, movies and alot of the other things that a 14yo should. i have no family history to go on to speak of, but his dads side of the family seems to have mental issues such as black outs, thumb sucking and so on in a few of them. he suffers from migraines and that is all. he is NEVER sick. right now he is on ablifly and it seems to help take some of the edge off. any ideas would be great. thank you

Guest guest
Sounds like Autism/Aspergers to me. Have you ever had a formal evaluation done privately? They can cost some money but are necessary to get a clear phsycological/social emotional picture of your child. You should find someone with expertise in Autism. Go from there. Once you have a diagnosis you can start recieving services through school and the state. No matter how well your son does on academic tests, he would still qualify for sevices like social skills, speech, Occupational Therapy, etc. Once you have a private evaluation you can take that to your sons school district and tell them that he requires services. Read anything you can on Autism. Its crucial that you educate yourself. And remember they are all different. You may not see absolutely every symptom in your child. But that does not mean your child is not autistic. They are individuals just like the rest of us. Good Luck on your quest. Never miss a thing. Make your homepage.
