Guest guest
Ha! I sent my son back with NOT APPLYING on form 5 and guess what happened? The nice lady at the Student ID counter told him that it needed to be signed!????!!! So, being the smart people they are, they let him forge my signature, how very kind of them. If you've ever watched Jon , I have that expression on my face (Jawhaaat???) when I think about this asinine process. Kim WAS Re: @ nick and @ kim and @ carrie and @ .... Guest guest
I went to a state college where they had a lot of stupid rules. It's mindless, but be thankful they don't bog you down in even more red tape. It could happen, and has happened, I'm sure. Tom Administrator Ha! I don't recall who said that, but it was one of the quotes used in Civilization 4 when you get a certain advancement. Bureaucrats love all the arcane little rules and red tape because the more of that mess there is, the more they can justify their existence and demand more money to make the system even bigger and more complicated. This is why government scarcely works: the agencies are so big that they don't half know what is going on in within themselves and they spend much of their time fighting other agencies, with whom they are supposed to be cooperating, for power, prestige and funding. Maybe I should post an article I found today about the "Stupidity Bacteria" the leader of the Palestinians in Gaza has said they were infected with, but also most of the world leaders have it too. Guest guest
I was telling my Mom this story and she supposed that the school was probably required to prove they had given every student a chance to apply for the reduced meal program. If this was the case, I think that the staff could have just told me when I called. That would have made some sense to me. My Mom works at a Cook County Hospital and my husband works with the City of Chicago and boy howdy do I understand corruption! Most times, when things do not run well in the office/paper pusher departments, it is not the fault of the people who answer the phones but the ones who are receiving a check for doing absolutley nothing. Friends, relatives, campaign contributors etc. get some handsome salaries and these people are clueless. It's as though the Shakman law doesn't exsist. Our evil dwarf of a mayor has been trying to get the law overturned, as if he doesn't have enough " friends " working in lucrative positions and receiving the best job bids in town. Every time I see another story in the paper about our DA going after these guys, I get giddy with glee. Politicians used to stack their administrations with all kinds of family and friends, with the expected incompetence and corruption resulting. That's why it was outlawed. They're still at it though, as you point out. This is one big reason the third world and arab nations have so much trouble: they still enthusiastically practice the Spoils System. It is amusing to see the law get after these people from time to time. Too bad the penalties don't amount to very much though. I've always thought that the more power one has, the tougher the penalties should be. That is because the more power one has, the more people they stand to harm with their actions. If they will put a drug dealer away for 20 years because they intimidated a neighborhood, then people like the Enron crew who ruined the lives of millions should get life and forfeiture of most of their personal assets as restitution. Instead they get country club jails and keep most of their ill-gotten gains.
Guest guest
In the mob, ya kept your mouth shut when ya got nabbed, you could expect to see the end of your prision term alive. In the political world, the smart crook keeps their knowledge of who knows who to themselves and they get a nice cozy position somewhere by a " friend " after they've served their time. I get after my Mom to keep those corruption " files " handy to use after she retires. I think it's the only thing to do when you have knowledge that can save me the taxpayer money in the long run.
