Guest guest
Thanks god they don't because it wasn't a glowing endorsement of NF. One interesting thing in the article though is that they got something right that NF professional organizations and some of their members don't seem to grasp. These devices are only sanctioned by the FDA for sale for relaxation. However NF professional organizations have public statements that they are used for the treatment of disorders. The irony here is that those licensed clinicians that are marketing and using NF equipment for the treatment of disorders and attacking unlicensed folks for obtaining and using these devices to treat disorders without a license are not on firm ground legally either with the FDA or within some scope of practices. The FDA referees to physicians and those working under them in their office for off label use. It does not refer to other licensed health care providers who use biofeedback equipment to treat disorders. The scope of practice argument that some of these licensed providers that have attacked unlicensed providers have given to justify such attacks is a different issue than the legal sale and use of these devices according to the FDA. The scope of practice argument is deficient for another reason. Scope of practice for psychologists in terms of biofeedback was enacted around its traditional use for relaxation and stress management and for urinary incontinence. Off the shelf uses that are being marketed now by licensed health care providers and their organizations such as ISNR and BCIA are not traditional uses of biofeedback nor are they uses for which the equipment has been FDA registered for.
