Guest guest
I would advise you to follow it up now. My son was at his worst at about 4-5yo, but we did nothing because we were assured it was normal, he would grow out of it, etc. By the time he was seen by a psychologist at 10 it was hard to diagnose him accurately because he had learnt to cope with his condition. Once she started asking us about what he had been like earlier, then there was no hesitation in her giving him his diagnosis of ADHD and Asperger's. Consequent observation confirmed her preliminary diagnosis. Your son may not qualify for a clinical diagnosis, but knowing he has traits of Aspergers/autism will help you help him cope with life. I don't see Aspergers in itself as a disability, but any of us who have autistic traits - whether or not they are sufficient for a clinical diagnosis - is going to need help with some things in life. -------Original Message------- From: .stanwood Date: 8/01/2008 3:54:14 PM My son Jack has Aspergers, he is mild but has some clear Characteristics. My question is, my other son who is almost 3 (Feb) is Has been showing some similar traits of Jack.He does however have Amazing verbal skills. He does not like crowds, we took him to the Children's Museum and all he wanted to do was ride on Daddy's Shoulders or in the stroller,His highlight of the museum was Rearranging the necklaces in the gift shop so they were all alike. Very rigid in play only seems to play with Disney cars and animals he Likes to line them up and put them in categories( race car, colors, Bad & good animals) He has been in the same playgroup for 1 1/2 yrs And rarely interacts with the other kids. He was in EI for 1 year for Being developmentally delayed but tested out around age 2. Sorry this Is so long, but I just can not decide if I am overly worried or if Maybe something is there. I was thinking he will not be three till February, so maybe I could get his old developmental spec. To pay us a Visit. Thanks ,

Guest guest
I am an autism researcher. I will have to find the resource I am thinking of, but, the prevalence of PPDS in siblings jumps significantly when there is already a case in the family. If you have suspicions I suggest looking into it. Early intervention never hurt anyone Catch it while its early; things are so much easier to manipulate in the early years than down the road. If you are interested in this specfic citation feel free to contact me provately and I can forward it to you. Guest guest
Hi , I also would advise you trust your gut and follow up. My child, who is now 12, began showing signs at 2 and 3/4 EXACTLY and I fought EVERYONE to get him dx'd. I even took him to OHSU right after his 3rd birthday ( a supposedly great hospital, where they told me that his only problem was " too much time spent with mom " !!! This after about 15 minutes with us! Finally, when he was 7, I was able to find a doctor and get him dx'd. Turned out he has AS and ADHD (co-mobid illnesses/syndromes are common with autism). My point is that, as a mom, you KNOW your kids. Trust yourself, and good luck. I'm still trying to get used to replying on this board, as I usually just read....hope I'm doing it correctly, lol. > > I would advise you to follow it up now.
