Guest guest
It's been several years since my experience with TEACCH in NC--I was in County--served by the center in Asheville--the staff was very warm and supportive but I found the classroom experience very deficient and began a home based behavioral program--then my son progressed. Another parent in the same county had a daughter who did not progress with TEACCH and asked for 1/2 of the funding so she could do a home based behavioral program as well. The school system refused and defeated her in a long nasty court battle. I actually testified for her in court and wit nessed first hand the deception of the school system--disgusting. It may be MUCH better now--just wanted to caution you. Try looking in Winston Salem--a couple of years ago an ABA provider (Lovaas replication site) was considering a move to a medical center so they could provide ABA for children--they may be a source of help in finding school districts that support aides/full mainstreaming and good behavioral intervention. The group is called Autism Research Center--directed by Barbara Metzger, PhD. Kate
