I brush numerous times daily, wetting my toothbrush with drug store variety H2o2. I have been to have my teeth checked and cleaned at the dentists since I started and all seems to be fine. I also swish some CS after the brushing as a back up. My teeth feel great afterwards. My son also uses the same protocol although he will use reg. toothpaste occasionally, his teeth are definitely whiter. BTW, I still have amalgams in my mouth. Guest guest
<< BTW, I still have amalgams in my mouth. Terri >> ====== Terri, this is the only thing holding me back from doing this. All I have read says not to do this if you have metal in your mouth. Unfortunately I have a lot. I have used the 35% H202 on my front teeth and they did get whiter, But my gums did not like it at all:-)) Christel

Guest guest
Since this subject started, I have started the practice of dipping a q-tip in 35% h202 and touching it to a rotary type elect. toothbrush to just do the front teeth. this is doing a good job of whitening while I think it is a minimal contact with the gums and the rest. Guest guest
There are all kinds of cool toothbrushes these days that play music, etc. that have a timer and goes off when they have brushed for a certain period of time. Also, make sure that whatever toothpaste your child is brushing with tastes good. Brush your teeth right along side..make a game out of it. JodieIt's Tax Time! Guest guest
With my son, I used a picture chart that had the different steps, such as putting the toothpaste on the toothbrush, brushing the top teeth, bottom teeth, back teeth, rinsing the toothbrush, etc, etc. It took a while, but he eventually got it. He now brushes his teeth on his own, he's 7 yrs. old, but I have to still check to make sure he's doing a good job. I started this when he was 5 yrs. old. I think the picture chart helped b/c it was like he knew he needed to brush his teeth and I think he really wanted to, but he just couldn't get from "A to B". All the little steps in between seemed to really confuse him and me verbally telling him just wasn't working. But, by having something to look at it eventually worked. I hope this might help. I know sometimes I read some of the things on the boards that other people do with their children that I am having a hard time with and I'll implement and modify it and alot of times we are successful. Some other people's ideas have even been life changing for us. Thanks, ourscuba <debkrush@...> wrote: Does anyone have any advice/tips?The child is 4 yrs old.Thanks,Debby. Guest guest
Some dentists have small instructional posters to place on the wall. For younger kids, I usually brush their teeth, then allow them to do it with supervision, following the instructional poster, if available. Over time, the become quite adept at it. For A/AS kids, sometimes self- care (blowing nose, etc.) is always an issue, even after careful lessons. They may require additional reminders and extended use of the posters. The new kind that you gargle before you brush and the dye sticks to the plaque. So he could see what to brush and when all the color was gone he was done. I know it has dye but it helped. Also, for flossing the little hand held travel floss on a stick type thing cause he wouldn't floss the other way and still working on it but he likes them. For a brush He loves the automatic ones and the tooth tunes. It really got him to brush and remember to.
