Guest guest
I think in Sjogren's the tear ducts that remove excess tears from the eyes are stuck open so that tears always drain away and the eyes become dry. One cure is to close the tear ducts either with removable plugs or by surgery.
Guest guest
Please go here and read this information. http://www.dry.org/fox20020816/guide.htm Sjogren's Syndrome is not just "dry eye." It is a complicated syndrome which may involve many other organs, including the heart, liver, etc. It is associated with RA and is an autoimmune disease in and of itself. The eyes and mouth are both affected and are excessively dry because neuroreceptors in the brain are not get the "correct" signals to produce enough fluid. When my allergies are active, my eyes are much better because I produce more tears. With excessive tearing, my eyes still run, like anyone else's eyes, although I suspect I can tolerate stronger symptoms of allergic reaction in my eyes than people without the syndrome because normally my eyes tear so little. ----- Original Message ----- From: hvantuyl@... Guest guest
To add to that: decreasing the size of the drainage ducts in the eye could help because you would conserve the tears you *do* produce. It does not mean you are producing too much fluid, it means that what you are producing would remain in the eye longer without draining. It's rather a controversial procedure and takes care of only one small symptom of Sjogrens. ----- Original Message ----- From: Hasenstab Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Sunday, May 09, 2004 7:46 AM Subject: Re: Re: Re: Two Sites About Dry Eyes & RA Please go here and read this information. http://www.dry.org/fox20020816/guide.htm Sjogren's Syndrome is not just "dry eye." Guest guest
Dear , From: Hasenstab It's rather a controversial procedure and takes care of only one small symptom of Sjogrens. Sjogren's Syndrome is not just "dry eye." It is a complicated syndrome which may involve many other organs, including the heart, liver, etc. Thanks for the feedback. I realize I should have put Sjogren's Syndrome in the subject line instead of dry eyes. I'm just learning about my new diagnosis. Could you please explain what it had done to you besides made your eyes dry? Thanks. Praying For Acceptance, Dodie
