Why do you think the redness and swelling is so bad? That is a natural response of the body and simply means that it is working right. In some cases, it can be a life saver. My son was stung this past week and had a red spot that was itching. He was worried about it. I said.......... forget it. In about two days, it had virtually disappeared. When I was younger, I would stand and watch the wasps sting me to see what the immune system response was going to do. Often I would leave them sting until they had completed the job and then brush them off. I have been stung by honey bees ( from my hives ) bumble bees, red wasps, and yellow jackets. Often they quit hurting within minutes and have seen the red spots disappear in an hour of less, often in 1.5 hours at most. Lots of complex things happening. Maybe someone can explain in details what the body actually does in a case like this. In the case of snake bite, excessive swelling in important to keep the venom in one place. If the body has half a chance, it will handle the problem, with only a little help. Wayne
