Guest guest
Sapna, I was wondering the exact same thing myself. My daughter has been on the protocol for 2 years and has started to speak, although myself, her grandparents and certain therapists are usually the only ones to understand her. She tries soooo hard, but she has trouble pronunciating the words properly. I recently found an oral-motor speech therapist (who does the methods) and will come to my home 2x's a week. She has shown some improvement; but just a little. If you would like to learn more about what oral-motor exercises we do please feel free to post it and I will elaborate on that. Good Luck, Michele

Guest guest
I would love to know more about the oral motor exercises that you are doing. I am a pediatric occupational therapist and love learning new things to do with my kids. Thanks! Guest guest
I'm not an expert on the subject, but my son, now 4 and very verbal, started out with nonsense babble and echolalia. The only language we could make out was the echolalia, and I don't think he really knew what he was saying - he just memorized it. My son still struggles with social language, but he has no problem expressing verbally what he wants and needs. I have no idea what your son is capable of, but I would interpret the babble as a desire to communicate verbally, which I think is a big step! Good luck! Guest guest
Rifat, Any verbalizations, utterances, or babbling are good and represent a stage of development. Babbling is an early form of expressive language. Given the variety of challenges you describe your daughter as having, it would be good for her to have an early intervention psychoeducational evaluation done. Such an assessment should take a thorough look at her receptive and expressive communication abilities and skills e.g. her skill with language as well as other areas. Each of the challenges you described her as facing are important pieces to her puzzle of abilities and challenges. Check with either your local school district's early intervention program or other private therapists in your area. Three years old is neither too young nor too old to have an assessment of this nature done. I encourage you to act on this ASAP. Time is a great asset to have on her side IF it turns out that she will need developmental intervention. Equally important, I'd like to say that our son has been with Dr. Goldberg for 5+ years and we only have high praise for his abilities, insights, character, and motivation. He does not only work with children in the autism spectrum. He works with a variety of medical challenges that underlie conditions such as ADHD, Learning Disabilities, Chronic Fatigue, etc. He is a board certified pediatrician (and I believe immunologist too) who has privileges at a number of hospitals in the San Valley area such as Cedar Sinai etc. He is a respected member of the medical community. I offer this information to you as a mother of a child with who is doing fabulously (thanks to the protocol and combined interventions) and as a learning disabilities clinician who has had the opportunity to work with children who share some or all of the challenges you describe. NOW IS THE TIME FOR ACTION!! Best of luck to you and your family. Guest guest
Pat, I would suggest calling the office back. I received my packet from Dr. G. within days. Once you receive the packet, complete all the paperwork, have your daughters medical file copied. Copy all reports from any speech therapists, psychologists, etc. You will need to write a history of your daughter from your perspective. Then send this all to Dr. G. Once they receive they will schedule an appt. I have not sent my paperwork back yet, plan to do so this next week. I was told the first appt. was in August, however they will put you on a waiting list for cancellations. Good luck. Guest guest
Rifat, I would call Dr. Goldberg's office again and ask to schedule an initial consultation with him on your daughter's behalf. Inform them that you are awaiting the materials they sent and would like to book an appointment as soon as it is mutually feasible. Secondly, have you inquired with those who are working with your daughter why they might believe she isn't improving and in fact, in your view, is regressing? What do they say? Do YOU believe that there are factors in the therapeutic relationship or environment that are contribution to this issue? If so, can they be improved or modified? Thirdly, has your daughter ever been evaluated by a pediatric neurologist? Though I hesitate to suggest dragging your child to see one more professional, pediatric neurologists are equipped with knowledge and skills that can rule out other significant/important factors, if indeed a true and sustained regression is occurring. Most medical plans cover an initial pediatric neurological evaluation if recommended by your primary care physician ( be they a pediatrician or a family practitioner). If you truly believe that regression is occurring, getting her checked out thoroughly by a pediatric neurologist would be advised. You certainly could do this before even seeing Dr. Goldberg. If you do, bring the results with you to your consultation with Dr. Goldberg. All information represents potentially vital pieces to your daughter's developmental picture. Rifat, your emotions are leading you to act. Trust them. Talk with others and obtain information. This is a very " leveraging " time in her cognitive development. I highly doubt you'll ever regret seeking out everything and everyone you can that you believe could help your child. Don't hesitate to e-mail me if you have further questions or concerns. Bless you for all you are doing! Guest guest
Hi Quinn, I would be happy to tell you more about that. Our oral - motor exercises have began using the methods and introduced to us approximately one year ago. There are different set of tools to practice, etc. and I would be more than happy to give you the website(s) and even the Email address of our Speech Pathologist. Please Email me at isoaa@.... There is quite a lot of information to learn about. Thanks, Michele
