Guest guest Posted March 5, 2002 Report Share Posted March 5, 2002 NUMBER OF ADHD CASES MAY BE UNDERESTIMATED Scientists at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences along with colleagues at the University of North Carolina, conducted a query regarding children with Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). When parents in a " typical " county (ston Co., North Carolina) were queried, they reported that more than 15% of boys in the first through the fifth grade had been diagnosed with ADHD and that two thirds of those diagnosed were taking medication to treat the disorder. Parents were asked as opposed to school nurses because school nurses might not be aware of children who are receiving medication solely at home.
