INC. How many million people on this planet have Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, CFS, Fibromyalgia, Post Polio and Gulf War Syndrome? Does it seem a bit odd to you that we need an awareness day? Is " Awareness " the wrong word? How about May 12th Information Day? If May 12th, is about creating awareness by providing information, then why are many of us so angry? Every may 12th, I see groups and individuals struggle to set up letter writing campaigns and mass mailings and media coverage and library mailings. And every May 12th, it feels tome that we are fulfilling an unspoken expectation...a powerful someone demanding the irrational: " Come here and show me your broken legs. And wed do it! Why is that " I think we should call May 12th what it is, A DAY OF PROTEST against the other 364 days that we endure the ignorance and subvert the anger. Maybe protest is the way humans have always corrected injustice. Maybe protest is the only pathway to change. Bernard Shaw said, " The reasonable man adapts himself to the world. The unreasonable man expects the world to adapt itself to him. Therefore, all progress is made by unreasonable men " If we say what we mean and use the word PROTEST, will it change the focus and effectiveness of MAY 12th efforts? Would you give this some thought as you write your letters? Pat Fero Tina M. Hendrix Cure2000@...
