Guest guest
When my child exhibited bad behaviors like hair pulling, pinching etc. we would say " no (pulling hair " ) while we held him firmly with his hands clamped together (immobile). Forcing him to be immobile not only stopped the painful behavior, but was aversive to him , as he hated to be restrained. We did not release our " gentle restraint " until he acknowledged our request, stopped fussing, pulling etc. and behaved " good " for a moment. Do any of your kids hair pull and what do you do? This may be overkill, but if he's actually pulling the hair out, here's a link about trichotillomania (might be mispelling that!) just to be safe. http://www.emedicine.com/PED/topic2298.htm My boys have never pulled out their hair, but Braden does hit his head against objects or hit his head with his hands when he's frustrated and having a meltdown. So far I haven't done anything about it (aside from getting him psychological counseling to teach him how to control his temper) because he doesn't really hurt himself.
