Guest guest
Hello, My 4 year old son has been seeing Dr. G for about 1 month now. Dr. G. started him on Valtrex because of his blood work. After being on Valtrex for 1 day was as hyper as can be. Dr. G recommended that we increase the dose and watch for changes. Well, he got much better. What has happened in the last 30 days has been amazing. is talking more, playing with his brothers more and is finally using the toilet (still many accidents). His teacher remarked that he is doing so well. I did not tell his teacher that we had started him on the medication. We will be having our phone consult with Dr. G in about 2 weeks and I am thinking that Dr. G will want to start on an SSRI. What can I expect? I have read some of the postings and see that kids tend to get hyper. What happens after the hyper reaction? I would love to hear from parents whoes kids are in a " normal " classroom (kids who moved out of special ed classes). If any of you have a child that was 's age when you started with Dr. G, please let me know how things went. Thank you for all of the support. Guest guest
Hi - When introducing an SSRI may see an increase in hyperactivity for a while (couple of weeks?). We also saw an increase in " attitude " . It takes about 6 weeks to reach therapeutic levels and the hyperactivity and attitude decreased a lot. Dr. Goldberg typically prescribes a very small dose to start and will increase it over several months. My son was dx with autism at age 3.5 and started seeing Dr. Goldberg at age 4; he will be six very soon. Just yesterday at his kindergarten parent-teacher conference, the teacher told me he soaks in knowledge like a sponge, and she thinks he is ready for general ed next year, which is exactly what I planned to request at his next IEP. Now, my son is still different than other kids. He has many sensory issues and is still language delayed. He also has some anxiety and OCD. But, mostly people think of him as a typical kid. Even professionals who meet him now will ask me " are you sure about that diagnosis? " Good luck - Vicki > Hello, > > My 4 year old son has been seeing Dr. G for about 1 month now. > Dr. G. started him on Valtrex because of his blood work.
