NASCAR Driver Races for Autism

NASCAR driver Hermie Sadler will be racing in the Winston Cup Series in

Bristol, Tennessee on March 21-23 to raise awareness and further autism

research. Hermie's inspiration is his daughter, Halie Dru who was diagnosed

with autism last February.

The car will be outfitted with the autism awareness ribbon on the hood and

1-800-3AUTISM. Viewers can call the 1-800-3AUTISM number on Friday, March

22nd through Sunday, March 24th to make a donation to fund autism research.

Support Hermie and autism by watching the pre-race trial on the Fox Sports

Net (check local listings) on Friday at 3:00pm EST and Sunday on Fox Sports

at 12:30pm EST.

NCBDDD Director to Speak at ASA Annual Conference

F. Cordero, M.D., M.P.H., Assistant Surgeon General, Director, <A

Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities</A> (NCBDDD), Centers for

Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), will speak at ASA's Annual Conference

in July. Come hear him give an update of exciting autism activities at the

NCBDDD!

The NCBDDD seeks to promote optimal fetal, infant, and child development;

prevent birth defects and childhood developmental disabilities; and enhance

the quality of life and prevent secondary conditions among children,

ASA Releases 2002 National Agenda

Each year, the ASA takes stock of the many issues facing individuals with

autism and their families and develops an agenda of the key issues the

Society will address during that year. We are pleased to release ASA's 2002

National Agenda. This year's agenda addresses key issues related to

children's services, adult services, autism research, and disability

Deadline Extended for 2002 ASA Awards and Scholarships

Good news! There is still time to get your nominations in for this year's ASA

Awards and Scholarships. The ASA has extended the deadline by two weeks.

Nominations must now be postmarked by March 29, 2002.The following is a quick

overview of the 2002 ASA Awards and Scholarships categories:
