I use a fixed stance with one leg in front of the other and squat. I have

heard it termed a split squat. It does the same thing in that your hams and

glutes beg for mercy but I don't have to focus on the step. Essentially you

step once, lower and lift, keeping shoulders back, head and chest up and

repeat until your reps are done then step back or forward and switch to the

other leg forward. The longer the step the more focus on the hams and

glutes, the shorter the step the more focus on the quads. Kit

That's a great idea. My wife and I stopped using the walking lunges for our

first 5 sets and use is as our finishing exercise because it was so

excruciating. Maybe this will help. We do leg curls for our first five

sets now. I have to try the split squat next LBW (luckily, that is 5 days

away).
