I don't think that this works for 97 because Microsoft doesn't provide a converter for 97. There are however websites to convert .xlsx files to .xls files. Open Office also opens them ok, but there are sometimes some interesting effects with more advanced features like Macros. Alternatively when saving them in 2010 one can specify an .xls file type, although you may lose some of the fancier formatting etc available in 2010.

Pete

I found a converter for Excel 2007 on the link you provided. Could not easily find one for 2010.

Using earlier versions of Excel with TLC7

Use file converters in earlier versions of Excel to open an Excel 2010 workbook

Specific updates and file converters are available on Office.com that can help you open an Excel 2010 workbook in an earlier version of Excel (Excel 2000-2003). If you have not yet installed the updates and converters, when you try to open an Excel 2010 workbook, you may be prompted to do this.

After installing the updates and converters, all Excel 2010 workbooks can be opened so that you can edit and save them without having to upgrade your version of Excel to Excel 2010. Excel 2010-specific features and formatting may not be displayed in the earlier version of Excel, but they are still available when the workbook is saved and then re-opened in Excel 2010. For more information about features and formatting that are not displayed, see Excel 2007 and Excel 97-2003 features that are not supported in Excel 2010.

DOWNLOAD AND USE FILE CONVERTERS

On the computer that has the earlier version of Excel installed, download the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack from the Microsoft Office DownloadsWeb site and install the updates and converters that you must have to open Excel 2010 workbooks. In the earlier version of Excel (Excel 2000-2003), open the Excel 2010 workbook. -- Van Deusenpvdtlc@...http://www.brain-trainer.comUSA 678 224 5895BR 47 3346 6235The Learning Curve, Inc.

I get the same as Jo the converter saves the file as read only and removes the activex controls as they have not been signed. The macro becomes enabled at medium security but the above stays true.

Re: Using earlier versions of Excel with TLC7

Pete,

I have updated and installed the converter.

But I still can't open it properly. (read only)

Are there any other possibilities?
