Guest guest
Kathleen, For my son every six months we switch between Diflican and Nizoral. ( Amphotericin B and other don't work for my kid) Every time we switch you drugs there is a " die off " reaction(about ten days to two weeks after switching medications). Each medication " kills " a different type of overgrowth of yeast. So when " die off " occurs, all the overgrowth of yeast is released into the body before it " dies off. " This causes the symptoms of autism to be intensified. At that time our kids feel terrible physically and it shows in their behavior. That is why Dr. G usually does this during vacation from school. When we are going through die off twice a year, I increase fluids and exercise and try not to be as demanding. We hang out, cuddle and watch movies a lot. Although I'll admit sometimes it is hard to cuddle with a kid you see regressing and being a general pain! The only good news about " die off " is that it rarely lasts more than two weeks. When the two weeks from hell are over, our kids are more focused and just feel better. I have felt the symptoms of die off myself and know how bad it is. It is sort of like bad PMS times ten if that helps to explain it. Hope this helps. Marcia
