Guest guest
Hi all. I hope you are doing well at the start of this week. Quick question... I've been on methotrexate for over a year and added plaquenil about 4 months ago. So far, good results so I have little to complain about but I was wondering if anyone has periods of extreme fatigue that you can't really connect with a flare up? The past two weeks have been horrible as far as energy level and I guess I'm looking for a reason beyond maybe just being lazy. My schedule hasn't changed except for maybe getting a little less hectic so it's a little frustrating to only want to sleep. Ideas?
Guest guest
It seems to me the longer I have R.A. the more fatigued i am getting. Cheers, ette At 18:56 19/04/04, you wrote: >Hi all. Guest guest
It's just a guess but the body adjusts to a hectic schedule by some changes such as more adrenaline production or something else. When the schedule lets up, the body goes back to a "normal" mode and it takes a while to adjust to the differences, Also the body needs time to make up for the things it put off while adjusting for the hectic schedule. It might be similar (to a lesser degree) to post-traumatic stress syndrome. That's just my theory. God bless. ----- Original Message ----- From: Matthies Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Sunday, April 18, 2004 11:56 PM Subject: fatigue Hi all. I hope you are doing well at the start of this week. Guest guest
Hi , I think for me that the fatigue is the most frustrating part of dealing with RA. It isn't always attached to a flare, although it can cause one. I had always been active and energetic prior to RA, and accepting the fact that I need to rest more is tough. I work full time and end up napping most weekends (if I nap after work I can't sleep at night). Lately I've been fighting a flare, and came to the realization that while increased prednisone may help, what I really need to do is make some changes to my schedule (I've been working 9 - 10 1/2 hour days regularly for the past 4 1/2 months). I now have a laptop from work and can access our corporate network from home, so I've taken to going home mid-day at times, taking a nap, and then working from home! I'm really fortunate to have that flexibility and a manager who accepts the need for me to do it. (Of course, I've told him the alternative is for me to be out on partial or complete disability, and he doesn't want that to happen.) The bottom line is - listen to your body. Even if what it is telling you doesn't make sense, or isn't what you want to hear, you are better off following the messages it gives. Beth > Hi all. Guest guest
Hi , I agree with Beth. Sometimes I am ridiculously tired for no apparent reason. Oftentimes I sleep 9-10 hours a night if possible. Its just part of the disease. I have found that when I need to rest, I slow everything down that I possibly can. Its just not worth the pain that comes with pushing too much. Like Beth too, I have found that if I push myself too much I'll flare also. Its frustrating, but a sign that you need to slow down and let the body recuperate. I also eat super healthy when I get tired, cut out sugar and most empty carbs - I find it makes me feel better. And believe it or not, I have found that light activity makes me feel better sometimes too. Even if its just a short walk or a light swim (feels the best when the joints ache). Just some ideas... blessings, Daisy > > Hi all. I hope you are doing well at the start of this week. > Quick > > question... Though I have not been on the MTX as long as some (1 month) I am so happy to be able to walk again. I get very tired, but I think I am jumping out doing too much too fast. From the tortoise to the hare. Should I be afraid of the sun? What will it do? Does anyone have dermagraphia? Fibromyalgia with the RA?
