Guest guest
Hi, Does everyone who see's Dr. G get a neurospect scan done and what is involved with this?
Guest guest
No - my son has seen him for about 2 years, and Dr. G has not mentioned it. Based on my understanding, it will show blood flow and activity in different parts of the brain. I am unclear on how this affects treatment, however. I'm sure others can help you more on this. > Hi, Does everyone who see's Dr. G get a neurospect scan done and what is involved with this? > > >

Guest guest
The scan is done at Harbor-UCLA Medical Centre - RadiologyDept. It involves the injection of B mCi Tc 99m HMPAO - a blue colored agent that takes 40 mins to circulate. The patient lies down on a bed and head is strapped with a soft velcro restraint and placed part way in one of those round looking scanning devices. During 16 minutes, a lot of transverse and lateral scans are done that show blood flow maps. We had this done in January, after 2 years of treatment. We did not have it done at the beginning, so do not have a benchmark, however it has helped us understand very dramatically areas of under and over blood perfusion, and helped Dr Goldberg direct medical efforts more precisely. I think it is one of the most powerful diagnostic tools and would recommend getting it done from the outset, even just to know where you are! neurospect scan Hi, Does everyone who see's Dr. G get a neurospect scan done and what is involved with this? Guest guest
Hello everyone, I am wondering if someone can point main criteria why or why not Dr.Golberg decide to perform neurospect? He told us that we do not need to do it (now). My son is doing extremely well on protocol, he is very young and he has mild form of autism with mainly speech (he is verbal, but behind his age) and social problem (but getting much better) Still, we'd like to " puzzle " everything. Thanks Regina R M <rmwilson@...> wrote: The scan is done at Harbor-UCLA Medical Centre - RadiologyDept. Guest guest
Hi, We did not get a neurospect done when we went to see Dr. G.last May. My son was 2 mos.past his 2nd birthday at the time. Dr. G.did not mention the scan to us. KathyP neurospect scan Hi, Does everyone who see's Dr. G get a neurospect scan done and what is involved with this? Guest guest
As you know, G is very cautious in his medical approach, and usually only recommends something if needed. IF your child is progressing well, then Dr G will hold on ordering a scan. If there are issues then he will order one. It is a stressful procedure for some children as it involves an iv infusion, a 40 minute wait and then lying down and holding still for 16 minutes strapped down and in a big unfamiliar scanning machine - can be scary. On our first visit, we had one booked, but cancelled after the consult as Dr G didn't think it warranted being done - however later he did. Again, it proves to be such a powerful tool, and in hindsight, it probably would have helped us if we had it done earlier. Depends so much on the child. If it was cheaper than $900 (used to be $1500) and perhaps easier like a regular x.ray, then it would be worth getting done anyway! Think about it some more and talk it through with Dr G. neurospect scan Hi, Does everyone who see's Dr. G get a neurospect scan done and what is involved with this? Guest guest
The scans have to be on the data base that uses. So far that is only UCLA but this will change in the near future. Kathy -NNY
