Hi all -- For five years we lived just two blocks from Dr. G's office building

(we're still very close his office, only now we're a 15 minute drive away). In

addition to what mentioned in her (wonderful!) post, and the Chatsworth

Park hiking/climbing area, there is also there is a nearby indoor playground

called Under the Sea (great for hot weather or rain!), a petting zoo called The

Gentle Barn (a quiet, beautiful place where the animals are lovingly cared for

and children really learn about them) and several parks with enclosed

playgrounds. My favorites are Reseda Park, which has a pond where you can feed

the ducks and geese and is nice and shady with tall trees, and Lake Balboa,

which is a park that surrounds a man-made lake (also with lots of ducks and

geese to feed), stocked with trout and bass if you like fishing, plus there are

paddleboats, grills for barbequeing, and two really great playgrounds for both

big and little kids (which unfortunately are NOT enclosed and you must keep your

eye on the kids at all times!). Another great park is Serrania Park, with a

nice enclosed playground, a huge sloping grassy lawn (great frisbee throwing)

and beautiful hiking trails. Woodley Park also has a nice playground, plus this

wonderful rock grotto and a wildlife observation area. These are all *within 5

- 10 minutes* of Dr. Goldberg's office (and, Days Inn and Red Roof Inn). Then

there's Tarzana park (I used to walk there in his stroller when he was a

baby) which is just about a 10-minute walk from Dr. Goldberg's office; it's

nothing special, but has a nice enclosed playground and nice shady trees to sit

under. By the way, the dollar store ( " 99Cents Only Store " ) that mentioned

-- she's right, it's HUGE and well-stocked, and Ralphs ( the supermarket) is

great and has a decent " natural/health " foods section. I've got to say, I miss

living in Tarzana!

There are a million more things to do in the area if you're willing to drive 20

minutes or so, or take a cab or public transportation. If you're planning to

make the trip out here, feel free to give me a call or e-mail me off-list. My

phone# is (818) 363-0403.
