Yes I think that is normal and should not be to much of a worry. The lab

test is very very sensitive and I bet in three months you will be back to

being undectable.

Dear CML experts,

I have a question for all of you that have reached PCRU. My last three PCR

tests showed undectable. This last one show a small amount. My Ono said this

can happen and he is not going to get upset or change my med (Sprycel 20mg.

) They will check again in 3 months. He said this can happen and does not

mean I am coming out of cytogenic response. Has anyone had this experience.

I am not to upset well maybe a little. Thanks for any information

information you can give me.

Hi Carolyn,

It takes 3 consecutive PCR results to determine a trend.

Make sure that you get a copy of all the results. It is nice for your doctor

to say that it shows a small amount, but you really want to know the exact

number so that you can do the comparison yourself.

Also, if you are nervous, why not ask your doctor to check again in 1 month.

I can't imagine waiting 3 months to have the test and then another couple of

weeks waiting for results. Most test results will fluctuate in and out of

PCRU. It is the nature of the test.

I hope this helps,

Hi Carolyn,

My PCR's have consistently bounced between negative and positive for years.

It's all part of the process.

Tomorrow I have my Dr. appointment with Dr. Tallman at Northwestern. This is my

3rd visit with him. When I saw him in September a PCR was done and the result

was 42. When I went back in October it was 10. I will have another run tomorrow.

My question is why isn't it reported in a decimal like everyone elses? Does

anyone else have theirs reported in a non-percentage?

Wish me luck tomorrow. Hopefully everything is going smoothly.

Thanks!

Hi ,

PCR results are reported several different ways. I don't think it matters

which way it is reported. What is important is that the PCR is done at the

same lab and there is no change done to the procedure. Some labs report in

%, others report as a whole number and others report as a log reduction.

Also remember that you want to look at 3 consecutive results to establish a

trend.

Do you have any results from the time that you were diagnosed in May? Iw

ould be interesting to compare them to the lab at Northwestern.

Thank you Zavie. I did not have a PCR done with my previous Dr. So this was my

3rd PCR. I should have the results in about a week.

I also found out that my Dr, Dr. Tallman, will be leaving Northwestern for a new

job in New York. He has referred me to another Dr. at Northwestern. Just when I

thought I found a keeper, he leaves.

I am scheduled to have a bmb on Feb. 8th. This will be my 2nd one. If this one

comes back good, he said I shouldn't need another.

Hi Sharon,

I don't think so. Negative means that using their test they could not detect

any CML. In other words you are PCRU.

What you might do is ask them what the sensitivity of their test is. The

more sensitive the test is, deeper the remission is.

If you have a good relation with Dr. Tallman, I would ask him to continue

following your treatment. He is one of the top CML specialists in the

country.

Hi Zavie

I am very happy with my treatment so far. I have a great Doctor-Dr. Russin

but my favorite medical person is an oncologist Pharmacist Dr. that is so on

top of everything. She knows as much as my Doctor if not more. She calls me

and goes over everything after I have my tests done. And there is no way I

could switch to Dr. Tallman I have Kaiser and I would not be covered. Where

does he practice?

He is one of the top CML specialists in the

country.

My PCR results have always been reported in % and log reduction. All of a

sudden I get a " negative " result.

I don't feel comfortable with that. Should I be concerned?

Thank you Zavie. I did not have a PCR done with my previous Dr. So this was

my 3rd PCR. I should have the results in about a week.

I also found out that my Dr, Dr. Tallman, will be leaving Northwestern for a

new job in New York. He has referred me to another Dr. at Northwestern. Just

when I thought I found a keeper, he leaves.

I am scheduled to have a bmb on Feb. 8th. This will be my 2nd one. If this

one comes back good, he said I shouldn't need another.

Dear Zavie, and all of my fellow CMLrs.

I got my PCR test results back from OHSU.  This is the first time my

Oncologist has used OHSU, after problems from the previous lab we used.   I am

now at 0.69.  The previous results were 7.49, then we increased my Gleevec to

600mg. and my results were then 1.06.

OHSU runs an international scale also, and I'm curious, how many of you get

results from the international scale?

Have a great day everyone!

Dx. 5/08
