Guest guest
Dear , you are right about the Tall Firs, in terms of basketball. The story I remember hearing about the Duck mascot, was Walt disney himself, on a handshake let the Duck be used for advertisement for Disney in the 40's, and when he died in the 60's those slick suit lawyers tried to take it back but somehow and agreement was reached to keep The Duck. I'll have to ask an expert but i'm pretty sure about it tho. Keep on cheering, ________________________________ From: hey00nanc <ncogan@...> Sent: Sat, January 2, 2010 11:44:33 AM Subject: [ ] Re: Ducks  > > Dear & , > My son wants to know if the Ducks were ever associated with a Lumberjack logo or changed their name? He used to follow national sports events very closely. When I mentioned the Ducks while he was naming teams, he asked me to ask you if you knew whether he was right or not? > > Waiting for your answer, > Lottie Duthu ____________ _________ _________ Hi Lottie, He's right....I know that the basketball team was called the Tall Timbers (or something very similar) and maybe that was before they were competing in football. I think might be a native Oregonian, so he may have more information. I think we have one of the oldest arenas in the county, called Mac Court, but it is in the process of being replaced (to expensive to maintain now). I don't know exactly how the Ducks got the Disney character of Duck, but we are the only college/university to have the right to use a Disney character as our mascot. At one point, Disney wanted to take that right back and a lawsuit was threatened.. ...but in the end, he remained out mascot. As a student said to me, the Ducks laid an egg in the Rose Bowl game. Give Ohio credit for shutting the Ducks down but the Ducks did not play inspired and it was probably their worst game of the season. Maybe next year. So, yes Lottie, it might have been Tall Timbers, or Tall Firs???? I still smile when I think of you are a BIG FAT ZERO!!! that is what we always used to call it. C. Guest guest
Hi , My daughter Kelley and I flew to Long Island for my friend's 80th surprise birthday. We walked in and there was a 72 " tv, and Kelley nearly had a fit, the ROSE BOWL GAME WAS NOT ON..... she finally asked one of the younger generation to go on his computer to find the score! But she could not believe an 80th party would take precedence over Ohio State!!!! We had a great time, but she did miss the game!! a ( Bobby ) Doyle, dob 12/17/29 Brecksville, Ohio, USA DX 5/1995 Interferon 9 weeks/Hydroxyurea 5 years o2/2000 to 06/2002 Gleevec trial, OHSU 06/2002 Gleevec/Trisenox Trial, OHSU 06/2003 Gleevec/Zarnestra Trial, OHSU 04/2004 Sprycel Trial, MDACC, CCR in 10 months 04/2008 XL228 Trial, U of Mich.
