Dear ,

Whever I started a trial, it was not unusual to get a rash. The last trial

produced hives of gigantic proportions. They stopped the drug for 3 weeks, but

I still had the rash. I went to a dermatologist and they gave me cortisone and

cortisone cream. It was still not over, but the drug manufacturer wanted me

back on the drug. I continued to treat the symptoms with the cortisone and it

finally went away. Maybe they could start you on a lower dose, gradually

increasing it. Good luck it is usually resolved with the right treatment.

Hands & hearts,

Hi ,

Sorry, I never had the " Gleevec " rash but I did have a rash develop from

taking allopurinol as an adjunct to hydroxyurea when I was first diagnosed.

The symptoms of that rash... extensive red, itchy bumps covering my entire

torso. The doctors told me that was a typical allergic rash from medication.

I hope this helps.

Awful! I used to get it inside my mouth on the right side and down the right

side of my throat. Nothing seemed to ease it or speed it up. At first, right

after it subsided I would get horrible pain in all my teeth. Then I started

taking Acyclovir. It didn't seem to have much effect on the rash itself, but

it would prevent that pain from following it.

Since I've been off Gleevec, I haven't had that problem once!

Hi , I got the rash about two months after starting Gleevec.  It was a

long time ago, but I well remember, it took prednisone pills and cortisone cream

to get rid of, some of the rash ulcerated, and it lasted months. Get thee to a

dermatologist !  Mine biopsied the rash and said it was definitely from the

drug, so I was sure.  I have terrible pictures of it, if you would like I will

send them to you, but they are not nice!  Bobby

Bobbie,

I would like to see the pictures.  I am currently on Spycell but when I first

was dianosed I was on Gleevec and had this horrible rash on my feet that started

as little ITCHY bumps and if scratched they would pus up and spread... I just

assumed it was athlete's feet and was treating it as such but to no avail.  I

went to a dermatologist and he was perplexed as it was not athlete's feet.  It

finally subsided after months of cortisone cream.  After reading the loop and

doing some investigation I pinned it on a side effect of Gleevec and my Dr.

agreed.

I am currently on Sprycel and there have been times that I would get those

little itchy bumps but they would flare minimally and then disappear. However,

this last month I have broken out worst than ever on my hands and have been

feeling rather toxic once again; yucky stomach, body very restless, restless

nights and very sore muscles.  But, I cannot take any breaks from the meds as

I did in the past because I lost my response last year.

Wow, i didn't mean to write a book but I see that other's are bothered by a rash

as well so I wanted to share my experience.

My rash on Geevec was all over my body. Face, legs, arms torso, back---after

6 months of trying everything from cortisone to creams they took me off and

onto Sprycell. It left suh bad scars on my body that I had to go to a

dermatologist and they had me do an Obigi treatment that helped. It was

like chicken pox.

Hi .

My daughter, Robyn, is on Geevic and never had a rash. The only side effects

that she gets is swelling under the eyes which she has been able to prevent by

not eating salt and watching sodium content in food. Fatigue seems to be the

most difficult side effect that she has. She has been on Gleevec for one year,

was in complete remission in a short period of time, but the fatigue remains.
