Do any of you have RA in addition to thryoid issues?...My rheumy did

an ultrasound of my thyroid and showed some " nodules " ?...hence, he

has

referred me to an endocrinologist (though I feel fine<shrug>)

I do not notice anything out of the ordinary in the thyroid area when

looking in the mirror, and such...

My thyroid lab tests have all turned out normal too...

Just wondering if RA also has an impact on thyroid as well??

Thanks..:)

i think RA is a dancer<G> it also seems to play hide'n seek all through my body, dancing from one part to another! ' getting to think that when i have what seems to be pleurisy in any random part of my body, it is just another step the RA is taking..

but... it wouldn't be really safe to ignore everything, as it could be other than the RA. i try to give it time to dance and see what happens before i check with the Rheumie.

love, granny lee

Hi

I am Stein from Switzerland. I have RA and about 4 months ago I

started to have bad hives and my doctor found out that I have an under

active thyroid . He thought that by supplementing me with the hormone my

itching will go away. It did not. I still have a thyroid problem and was

wondering if any of you ever experienced the same thing.

Thanks,

I developed Thyrotoxicosis (an overactive thyroid, which is also an

autoimmune desease like RA) twenty years ago. It was initially

treated with surgery and then about 5 years ago with radio-iodine.

I now take thyroxine every day. I was diagnosed with RA two years

ago. As I understand it, if you develop one autoimmune disease you

have a greater risk of developing another. Hope that helps.

, I don't think RA itself will affect the thyroid but with our immune system being out of whack we can have many health problems not directly related to RA but related to autoimmunity. I have hypothyroidism (TSH out of normal range) that was diagnosed by my PCP a couple of years before I got RA. It's treated by taking Synthroid daily and I essentially forget I have it but I still take my medicine for it. I'm not aware of any medical specialty that deals with all autoimmune diseases so if something is not related to a joint I think you need to see a doctor other than a rheumatologist. Good luck and God bless.

, as I mentioned above I have thyroid problems also but I have never identified any symptoms associated with it. My PCP just included TSH on my annual labs and found it. I'm not sure why he did so, but I'm glad he did because it is now well controlled and it could have given me symptoms if untreated. It doesn't seem like your hives is related to either thyroid or RA. Perhaps an allergist could find the cause. Good luck and God bless.

I have a little lump on side of my throat and they checked my thyroid and

all tests came back okay so I did not worry about it.
