Hi Sue,

Add me to the low eGFR group. I asked my GP about it a few years ago and his

answer was that virtually every single one of his patients is low on that

test. He also said that, ironically, it was actually his diabetic patients

who typically tend to show normal on it. That's ironic because they're the

ones, if any, who should have problems with it. His opinion was that the

test was misleading and almost useless.

Tracey,

I just checked my test results and yes I have had that test done for years

with the Creatinine but it never made sense to me because it always says <60

and normal range was <60. and that was all. So I figured it was ok. I

wonder if they even run it?

Hi Sharon,

It's short for Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate and is often done at the

same time as creatinine. It's supposed to be an indication of kidney

function but as I said in my earlier post, my GP has little faith in the

test and doesn't use it for anything.
