Guest guest
Have the same issue with falling GFR. 20 percent drop in two years. Was at 97 now 78. Theory is that sprycel is processed in liver, but i did read of a case study where renal failure was reverse with a drug change in CML pt. Watch it closely and keep us posted please. Rhonda Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry [ ] Glivec and Kidneys This is a new one I have not heard of anyone having kidney issues My Cumulative Electrolytes (Serum) is always tested along with all other bloods and PCR etc every three months The last 3 x eGFR have come back a little low but these are pretty stable - always between 58 - 62 which the normal is between 60 - 90 (Haem not concerned - CML) This is from one lab - where I get my PCR done My GP sent me to get normal bloods done for a yearly check and this new lab had a different evaluation (NOT SURE) but the eGFR came back as 48 which is really low. Now I have to get kidneys checked - 24 urine testing - then some ultra sounds Different Lab Has anyone had any experience with low eGFRs This has happened of course because nothing has happened to me for at least 6 weeks - and no longer have any rash issues - noravirous issues - so the cycle of medicos continues Sue (Aussie)
Guest guest
Hi Sue, Add me to the low eGFR group. I asked my GP about it a few years ago and his answer was that virtually every single one of his patients is low on that test. He also said that, ironically, it was actually his diabetic patients who typically tend to show normal on it. That's ironic because they're the ones, if any, who should have problems with it. His opinion was that the test was misleading and almost useless. Guest guest
Hi: I just saw this post about Kidneys and Gleevec. I had been running a high BUN and Creatnine, and my GFR was off. My primary sent me to a kidney specialist, and the nurse asked me if I was drinking enough water. I told her I was not a water drinker, and I know I should. I started to get my fluids in me, and my numbers came back to normal. I go for my blood work, and I go see this specialist. He tells me that I am doing good, and I never told him I increased my fluid intake like the nurse suggested. My numbers have been normal, but they tell me I have Cronic Kidney Disease Stage 2, and say I will see you in 6 months. I am not going back in 6 months unless I see some changes in my blood work. I have blood work done so much anyhow to keep watch on the kidney functions. Just thought I would share this. Guest guest
Hi Sharon, It's short for Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate and is often done at the same time as creatinine. It's supposed to be an indication of kidney function but as I said in my earlier post, my GP has little faith in the test and doesn't use it for anything.
