Guest guest
> I can't get a straight answer from a Dr. about a Lyme > PCR. I just found out it is still positive. My Neuro > said that because I had Lyme that I will always have a > positive PCR. I have been told by other Dr's that this > isn't true. I have the 'luck' of always showing positive on Lyme tests, be it PCR, LUAT or Western Blot. From what I understand the PCR takes and amplifies the Bb DNA that is present in your blood. So it has to be there, literally, the bug has to be there, for it to show positive. Where as with an antibody test you dont have to have a current infection to show positive, these results are shown by the Ig's , one is for current and one for past infection. So, if you show positive with a PCR, you have to have an infection, how else does the DNA get there? Does that make sense? I have a bad habit of thinking one thing and another comes out that isnt all that logical LOL I would switch Drs, go see one of the ones that thinks you are still infected. My Dr 'knows' that I still have lyme, not only from the test standpoint, but because of sympoms. I have been on several rounds of abx and was in a good remission for about a year, but the symptoms have come back. I am 'sick' , in that I want a herx, if I take an abx that doesnt produce one, I will ask for another. So when that herx happens, its just another flag that I am still infected. Guest guest
Efrem, Do you have any numbers??? Percentages? Was this a PCR Quantative or Qualatative? sharon _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of fischer Sent: Wednesday, December 09, 2009 10:21 AM Zavie Subject: [ ] Positive PCR I was diagnosed with CML in Jan. 2007, and achieved complete remmission in March 2008, with Gleevec. I had completely negative PCR till a couple of months ago. Unfortunately, my last 2 PCRs were positive. My doctor is now telling me that she my switch me to Tasigna or Sprycel, and I have a consult with a Transplant specialist. The consult is just a precaution, to begin to get me into the transpant system. She is confident that new drugs will work. Has anyone had a similar experience where you were in complete remmission with Gleevecm, but then it started to come back and you switched to a different drug? I would love to hear some feedback, I feel kind of low today. Efrem Fischer
Guest guest
I have a weird one to add..... J When I was DX'ed on 10.22.09 my fish and PCR came back positive. Since then my Fish has been positive but my PCR negative. I have had three tests from the same lab. I go in for my next test on Friday which they are sending to a different lab. The reason this is weird as most of you I'm sure know, is that the PCR test is more sensitive than the Fish... I'll keep you posted on my blog! Good luck! If it has been a significant increase over the last 2 PCR tests, then it is very important that you have a mutation test to see if you have developed or uncovered a mutation. This is important BEFORE you move on to another drug, because if you do have a mutation, this can determine what drug you should be put on. Your doctor may have to send a sample of your blood to a specialized lab or cancer center to get this test done....but it is the next step. C. Each lab should know what their sensitivity is for this test.....and even 5% on FISH can still be a negative. I would not worry about this test at all....in fact, most cml specialists are not doing it anymore. Your PCR test is the accurate test. C. Guest guest
Thank you nancy.  I was at my doctor yesterday, and she drew more blood, to further test it, so see what if any other drug I should switch to.
