Guest guest
, I agree with those on this site that say you MUST see a CML specialist. Docs who treat leukemia mean well, but CML is such a different " animal " that even though they may be a cracker-jack doctor, they do not know much about CML. My husband was diagnosed May 8, 2009. We went to a local leukemia doctor for five months and then, after reading CML sites learned about Dr. Talpaz in Ann Arbor, MI. We were lucky enough to get an appt within 2 weeks----and he is amazing!! You sound like a young mother and you owe it to your family to get the best treatment available. I know it is an expense, but what is worth more than your life? We have been to see Dr. Talpaz only one time. We stayed overnight in a hotel arranged by the Cancer Center there, a Holiday Inn, ($75). They furnish a shuttle from the hotel to the Cancer Center. Besides the flight, it cost us $85 for a round trip from the airport (Detroit) to Holiday Inn and back the next day to the airport. That would have been half that amount if I had not accompanied my husband. You might even ask the Univ of Mich Cancer Center if there are any funds available for help. They are unbelievably helpful. Wayne has to go back in 3 months because he is just starting on Sprycel and Dr. Talpaz is very thorough. He is working with our regular family doctor for his regular care and his weekly blood tests are done here (Southern Illinois) and faxed to Dr. Talpaz who calls us with the results. He says that in the future he will only have to come to Ann Arbor twice a year. If you want to pursue this, contact me personally by email. I have phone numbers that will help you get started. In my experience in life, I have found that the things that you worry about are seldom what happens. But we always seem to expect the worst. Keep your chin up and get into action. God Bless You, Joyce M
