Guest guest
This morning he was feeling a little warm, no real fever, but very nasty attitude and still had some pretty thick stuff, so I broke down and mixed the antibiotic and he started it. So now that you've read my novel, what is your experience with getting sick while still on SCIG or IVIG? What can I expect? , As I'm sure you know, every child is different--but I will tell you about our experience. My son had CHRONIC sinus/ear/strep infections. He averaged about 15 rounds of antibiotics yearly--not including Rocephin injections at the Ped's office. After his first IVIG, he stopped having ear and strep throat infections. He has still not had one--after three years. The sinus infetions took much longer. The first year, he had the most--I think he had three or four sinus infections that year. He now has one or two!! Of course, he still gets colds. Our Immuno says that IVIG will not help with colds. However, he doesn't get a sinus infection automatically after every viral infection while on SubQ. It's been a miracle to see him get colds that DON'T turn into sinus infections! IVIG just takes a while to work. Hang in there!! Guest guest
Hi , I have three boys, 2 1/2, almost 6 , and 8-- all of them have CVID and get Vivaglobin SubQ weekly. In our expereince (our oldest has been on IVIG or SubQ for 6 years), each child has responded differently. Our oldest has not had a significant infection since beginning treatment 6 years ago (except when he was trialed off-- then he landed back in the hospital within two months). He is also the one who has had the most severe side effects-- including aseptic meningitis last March that helped us discover SubQ . . . Our middle son usually has something serious breakthrough about once a year (he has low IgA-- we think that is the difference). He appears particularly vulnerable to trep-- if he gets that it almost always progresses to pneumonia-- even after heavy duty antibiotics. Of the three, when he gets sick it is usually worse for him, and he is more likely to be hospitalized than the other two. He also has high IgE, and many allergies to food and antibiotics. And our youngest, who has been on ivig or subq for a little over a year, still has chronic sinus issues (his IgA is lower than the other two). He has the most developmental problems, and is starting to show allergies to antibiotics and other things . . . So, I guess that just shows that even in the same family it really is different for each child. I know that probably doesn't answer your question of what to expect, but I can say that it is definitely so much better than life without the treatments! Yes they still have issues, but they are not constantly hospitalized anymore, and their quality of life is so much improved. I hope your road is smooth!! , Mom to 3 wth CVID, all on SubQ weeklyhttp://foxfamilypidd.bravehost.com/ _________________________________________________________________ Shed those extra pounds with MSN and The Biggest Loser! http://biggestloser.msn.com/
Guest guest
Hi , Does Jonah have neutropenia? We have issues with this and one of the precautions is avoiding rectal temps because there is such a high risk of infection there if the child is neutropenic. You didn't say how old he was, so that might not be a factor, but it might be worth asking the doctor to check if he's neutropenic if he hasn't already. good luck! , mom to 3 with CVID, on SubQ weekly http://foxfamilypidd.bravehost.com/ _________________________________________________________________ Climb to the top of the charts!
