Guest guest
Rita, NK cells specifically fight herpes type viruses. is on prophylactic acyclovir as well. He does have an " error " on the NEMO gene, but no one knows the clinical significance of what that means. NEMO is x-linked.... S's daughter Kelsey is a carrier and they (Dr. O and NIH and Dr. B from Cinci) have determined that the NEMO carrier is not the cause of her immune issues. I also believe 's S's daughter has NK issues as well, however I don't think she has had the herpes. We ended up putting on SCIG two years ago, due to the failure to thrive issues...He had completely quit eating...didn't see mouth sores at that time, but ended up in the hospital for rehydration for no other reason than anorexia....He has done better, but the mouth sores still happen, and now he is getting classically looking herpes on his outer lips, which had never happened before. I don't think I have a lot to offer...I don't think they really know what to make of the NK cell defects, unless the kids are very very sick....that is something that Dr. O is working on I believe. We did use Magic mouth wash for the pain assoc with the herpes, we tried a steroid mouthwash, zinc replacement, Vit C replacement....nothing really seemed to help. I think the most important thing is to keep them on acyclovir....and be concerned about any rashes with vesicles. My cell is 701-220-4034 if you want to talk. I have a job interview at 10 am today and am really hoping this pans out. I'm a nurse and we are getting cut 16-24 hours a week right now...I cross trained to another unit, so I'm getting my hours, but I'm not doing what I want...I'm also working with MRSA and VRE again, which I don't want to bring home. This would be mon thru friday with every 5th Sat on call....My hubby got a promotion and will be travelling more, so don't know how I can continue to work nights and have 4 kids.... Call me and we can talk... S---herpes & low NK , I see in the old messages that you have dealt with both the low nk cells and positive herpes. Our dd (5 yo) has struggled all her life with health issues and finally in July 2007 was dxed with a mild immune defiency by her ped (but we don't know what kind specifically). He put her on acyclovir, paxil and kept on with the zyrtec, prevacid, periactin. Then in October, he added Diflucan. She saw him again yesterday and had come back with a positive herpes virus 6. Her IgG is a low normal but all IgG subclasses came back normal. She definately battles fungal and yeast problems as well as food allergies, migraines, reflux, sensory integration, skin rashes, diahrrea, you get the idea. What have you found with the connections to herpes and low NK to immune disorders? Thanks. Rita and Mollie
Guest guest
, I am writing you about another topic that you mentioned on a professional level. We live in OK near Tulsa where we are having consistent outbreaks of CA MRSA. Is this everywhere but just not being talked about or are we a cluster happening now and is yet to spread everywhere. In the cases here they are saying that most of them are minor infections and they are saying very little and making very little of it. That is fine for kids with normal immune systems but what about our kids. I have spent a great deal of time researching it online talking to IDF and getting info from NIH and CDC and Tacoma seems to have the best protocols for schools that I have found. But I was wondering what you have seen or learned that might be of interest in regards to schools, #S of cases and outcomes. I am an RN in Peds but I would say this is catching me a bit off guard especially after reading the article in the Readers Digest for August of last year with MRSA. Just interested in your feedback.
