Guest guest
I am wondering if anyone has had to take their sub-q solution, such as Vivaglobin, on carry-on when traveling by air? When placing an order today, our Accredo rep said we must have a doctor's and airline clearance to bring in our carry-on. I don't recall problems with other meds with carry-on. Anyone have any knowledge/experience here? Thanks you, mom to , 17, cvid, jra --------------------------------- Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Search. Guest guest
I have never heard of an airline consent but it is always good to have a Drs order with meds . Mostly to identify what it is and confirm that it is for her. Other meds have labels but our bottles for Sub Q do not have his name dose etc. on it. But you may want to check with the airlines. You also might ask the nurse where she got her info. BARBIE Re: : travel I am wondering if anyone has had to take their sub-q solution, such as Vivaglobin, on carry-on when traveling by air? Guest guest
, When we traveled, we took it as a carry on. We made sure that we had the Rx (which is printed by Accredo on the ziplock baggy things). They can ask for the Rx if they see tubing, syringes, etc. I was prepared to tell them it was for a chronic disease like diabetes but it didn't get that far. You may want to call the airline just to be sure. While you're at it, ask for the bulkhead, so there will be a couple less people sneezing directly on you--and she can move her joints a bit more. Guest guest
We just flew on Tuesday and had no problem. We had the Vivaglobin in the labeled baggie that the pharmacy ships them in. We also used a soft-sided cooler bag and freezer pack. The TSA agent had to look through the cooler bag until he found the medicine that required the cool pack. We've flown over 10 times with her sub-Q medicine and supplies and have never needed doctor's or airline clearance. You can ask Accredo to send you an extra label for the Viva box also. Guest guest
Whe we air traveled with Blake we had a certified not from Blake's Dr. of the imporatance of the meds. we also had a certified note from the infusion company that supplied Blake's meds.. We also called the airline to warn them that we had a cooler with IV meds. and Blake s sub-q Blood clotting meds..... but I had to remeber this was just one yr. after 9/11. We traveld to Disney world. We also followed suit in 2006 when we went to Florida for a week long trip. It might be good also to tell the Hotel where you will be staying just in case an emergency arises & you need the ambulance arrive(that is what happend to us in 2006.....just Blake!!!) Usually the airport is okay with all of this. Since we called ahead of time, they never searched us. We handed the notes & they were fine with it....I wish I could say the same for Dad.....he had to go through a FULL search, both times!!!! Guest guest
Barbie, we see her immuno and rheumy hrs before boarding so I think I will get a note just to cover all our bases. I am calling the nurse today so will inquire as to source of her info. Guest guest
, what a great idea about the bulkhead - unfortunately, those seats were already taken, since we could not book too far ahead. I guess we'll just have to have her get up and stretch often. I was thinking only taking Viva and methotrexate in our carry-on but guess I should keep all the accessories with us. So if Dr. R and Dr. M write a rx that should cover those things? The grandbaby brought a stomach virus into our home so I am scrambling even more to be ready for the 2+ week trip by next Wed...oy vey! Thanks for your suggestions. Hope Dani is doing a bit better and things are progressing. Schulman <dietdoc@...> wrote: , When we traveled, we took it as a carry on. Guest guest
Sara, that really does help - since she has been dx, we only flew once and weren't gone long enough to have to take it. I will definitely ask for a few extra labels, just in case. Thanks. Sara Drews <sdrews@...> wrote: We just flew on Tuesday and had no problem. Guest guest
U of M is near Ann Arbor, correct? We are headed to Ann Arbor first to the Michigan Head and Neurological Institute then to Chelsea as MHNI has their own inpatient program at Chelsea Community Hosp for txt of migraines and neurological issues. has had no relief from daily migraines since her meningitis 2 years ago - her new neuro highly recommends this program. We will be there at least two weeks. Do you happen to know if Chelsea is a pretty safe community? Guest guest
Hi , I live in which is just 20 minutes from Chelsea. Chelsea Hospital is small, and very good. The area is very safe- a typical small town. They have a neat teddy bear factory where you can stuff a bear- like Build a Bear but on a smaller scale. The kids enjoyed it as they went on a tour and learned how the bears are sewn. You can email me at sdrews@... and I can help you out more if you like. Guest guest
---U of M is IN Ann Arbor:) and we'll be down tomorrow for infusion. Thats a pretty good area, pricey...if Chelsea is near that, its probably pretty good......but I'll look and see what its near and let you know. The only thing in AA you need to sort of watch is getting lost and in the middle of the frat houses on a weekend. Once, my DH got turned around down there on a Friday night, pulled into a driveway bc there were a bunch of people there, to ask directions, and several ladies flashed him----a memorable trip:)lol And there are lots of one way streets, which I HATE. We live in the mid-state so we're about 70 miles north of Ann Arbor. We've had wonderful care for my four kids in Ann Arbor. Ive had migraines since I was 12, and I really empathize with your poor daughter. Not much else matters when your head feels like that.....you cant ignore it, you cant divert your attention from it. I hope she is able to find some relief. valarie In , nancy barnes <nancyb315@...> wrote: > > U of M is near Ann Arbor, correct? > > We are headed to Ann Arbor first to the Michigan Head and Neurological Institute then to Chelsea as MHNI has their own inpatient program at Chelsea Community Hosp for txt of migraines and neurological issues. has had no relief from daily migraines since her meningitis 2 years ago - her new neuro highly recommends this program.
