Thank you for sending this message: we do not use hemp oil, but

are looking for a source of pharmaceutical grade pure lanolin oil

in containers at least 16-ounce size; more preferred. If you have

such a product, or know where it can be procured, please notify.

I was wondering if anyone had tried hemp oil in soap. I have

Cavich's book and there is a recipe in there titled " Hempster's Delight " . If

you have tried it, is there any noticible difference in the soap's

properties (besides being green), such as more emollient, softer, harder,

etc. After complaining for so long to anyone who would listen that I

couldn't get any of my supplies locally, I was astounded to see bottles of

hemp oil from locally grown hemp in our farmer's market, at a good price

too. Of course I had to get some and now am wondering if using it in soap is

worth while, or if I should just use it in a lotion or cream.

If you have used the oil in soap, can you recommend a good scent to use with

it? It has a nutty smell, so I don't want to use anything flowery.

Thanks for any suggestions/advice you might have.

Hi Bonnie

I always use hemp oil in my soaps. It is one of the main ingredients in our

soaps. It is a WONDERFUL product! I would never again think of making soap

without hemp seed oil in it. It is wonderful for the skin. I can always tell a

difference when I am not using a soap made with hemp oil. :-)

Hi Barb,

Well, my basic recipe consists of coconut oil, palm oil, olive oil and hemp seed oil. I usually use in a 10 pound batch at least 15 oz of hemp oil. Palm oil is the highest, then olive then coconut. I sometimes also put in a bit of shea or some other exotic butter.

You can use it in any recipe - - just use a good SAP chart for calculations.

If you use a lot of it, it will make a soft soap, so you do need to make oil

adjustments to compensate for that.

It will also turn your soap varying shades of green, depending upon how much

you use. I always add it with the rest of my oils, not at trace.

I actually have a question Rox...is there any residual amounts of THC found

in this oil...how funny, Bob and I were just wondering about this one day as

we were driving and talking about oils.

I use any recipe I have and just add 1 oz. hemp oil per lb. oils when

putting it through the lye calc. Then I hold the hemp oil and add it

at light trace. BTW, as hemp oil is one that has a short shelf life,

and can be close to expiring when I get it, I add an antioxidant as

soon as I get it, and store it in the fridge.

Hi Leanna,

I do not know what the limits on hemp seed oil might be, but I recently made

some lotion that called for 75 grams of a combo of hard and soft oils. I

used 20 grams of hemp seed oil. The lotion is not at all greasy and absorbs

well.

Hi Jeanine,

The last time I bought it was from Oils by Nature (www.oilsbynature.com)

and I know Soaper's Choice carries it too, but you have to buy larger

quantities (www.soaperschoice.com).

The only thing I can suggest is if you're using it (I've only used it in

soap and lotion bars...the lotion bars went rancid on me) be sure that it

is something you're going to use up fairly quickly. In soap, I'd suggest a

pretty low percentage unless you (or your customers) use the soap up fast.

Also I store mine in the freezer.

It's a great oil, lots of fantastic properties, but very short shelf life.

HTH! :-)

I love hemp oil, but yes, it goes rancid really fast. I threw out

over 60 bars of soap and a half-gallon of oil because they went

rancid. *sob*

The whipped shea I made with it, though, is still good 3 years later -

I added about 5% T-50 vitamin E to those, though. So I'd add either

the T-50 again or meadowfoam seed oil (or both).

I have a pound of it in the freezer now just waiting to be used.

Probably tomorrow.

I watched a movie once called " Reefer Madness " which convinced me

never to go near the stuff. These reefer addicts would come into a

town, and throw parties for teenagers. They would then offer the

teenagers their " cigarettes " and after just one puff on a hemp

cigarette, the person was hopelessly addicted for life. Women would

tear off all their clothes under its influence. Men would run over

people in the streets with their cars in broad daylight.

LOL!!! I actually REMEMBER that movie-it was hilarious! Thirty-

something years ago, when I was in college, we used to get stoned and

watch it. . . Thanks for that memory :-)

I would like to know if anyone has had first hand experience, using

hemp oil, and how would I go about obtaining it? As I mentioned,

before, private replies are fine, for obvious reasons. . .
