Well since none of us are getting out alive anyway, it's great that you have a sense of humor! The best piece of advice that I can give you is to have a rheumatologist. And, if you do not like that one, change..... Be flexible and proactive regarding your wife's care. She is fortunate to have you on her side. Fight....... Hugs, Pris Show Biz tricks for pigs! Guest guest
Wow! You folks Rock!! Have to admit I am a bit shell shocked at all the WONDERFUL responces I recieved. I really want to thank Pris and everyone else for not pulling their punches, this IS a very real situation, that needs to be dealt with. In our case the pride and fullfillment my wife gets from breastfeeding really helps to negate the guilt and fear of RA, so giving it up is not going to be easy even though it will be neccesary. Trying to find a breast feeding compatible solution is the only thing that gives us hope. Reading about RA is like hugging a cactus, sure hugging is good, but damn if don't hurt. We are very opptimistic about the whole thing but realize that any drugs are " poison " ... God made dirt and dirt don't hurt, pharmacutical companies make drugs and they are only beholden to their shareholders. My point I suppose, is that prayer, laughter and love are going to be our primary treatment, and then we'll do whatever the doc says as well. (Old Islamic saying: Trust Allah but tie your camel to a post.) We are all at different places spirtually, mentaly, emotionally, and physically. The message board however is a level playing field where we can vnet our worries and fears, and be uplifted by those dealing with related obstacles. Fearful posting should be met with love and understanding not opposition, in this world the opposite of love is a call for love. God's health insurance policy is in the bible for those that find it. For me it starts out: He replied, " Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you. " I guess faith is the premium and prayer is the deductable. Okay this is becoming a long rammble, I just meant to say thanks for the wonderful responces. oh oh one more thing though. I heard the other day that life is nothing more than a terminal sexually transmitted disease with 100% mortality. In that light RA doesn't seem as bad. Ha ha ha ha Love and laughter are the best medecine. We laugh to keep from crying, we cry to fight the fear. I love you all so much, and wish you only the best. Wow, I really have to take exception to that. Would you like aspirin better if you were eating mold... my point is that medicine IS derived from the natural world you know! Please... get over that attitude. It will do you harm. Yes, medicines can have side effect... so can food! and drink! and taking the subway! Maybe it's because I've had this disease 25 years (and I'm not yet 40) but I have a hard time understanding people who boo-hoo because they have to take a pill every day. Be grateful there IS a pill for you. It's this " poison " that will keep your wife from a wheelchair and a life of great pain... and if you go into the beginning of a medical relationship with the " doctors and drugs are the enemy " attitude of opposition you are going to be very unhappy. I know you said you will do what the doc says... but you'll help yourself GREATLY if you lose the us vs. them perspective and begin to think of doctors as HEALERS. It's a MYTH that with therapy, diet and alternative cures serious illness can be made to go away. Even ulcers aren't caused by stress as once was thought-- they are caused by a bacteria. So... subscribe to Arthritis Today (by giving to the Arthritis Foundation)... and LEARN. Read, read, read! (One inspirational movie is " Lorenzo's Oil. " in which two laypeople end up discovering a medicine... not a poison) Ok, rant off... good luck and do stay positive...
Guest guest
Philip, Think I missed some stuff but wanted to share I am controlling my RA mostly with diet, vitamin C, fish oil, and chicken cartilage after seven years of trying many drugs and doctors. As long as I am careful what I eat(my diet is pretty restricted), I am doing okay and maybe your wife could try. My babies were before RA but I had a preemie and I pumped my breasts with machine and carried my milk to hospital for my baby. I think I missed some of your story, but just wanted to share... Good luck and God bless, Kay ----- Original Message ----- From: " Philip Berens " <philiptheb@...> <Rheumatoid Arthritis > Sent: Thursday, April 29, 2004 8:20 AM Subject: Shell Shocked > Wow!
