Hyperthyroidism

Hi all,

I don't post very often but I have a question. My son, Nick, just turned 5

years old and he has CVID. He has been on either IVIG or subQ since he was 18

months old. Several months ago he started sleeping all the time, around 16

hours a day. We were told viruses and then they thought it was his meds.. so

they switched them all around. Finally they tested his thyroid and the labs

came back showing he has hyperthyroidism.

I have Graves Disease so while this was a huge shock, at least I know how to

deal with it. I am just wondering what the odds are to have that and CVID??

Hyperthyroidism in kids is rare and then for him to be a boy makes it even that

much more rare since there are 7 to 8 girls for every 1 boy dx with it.

Also just wanted to throw out there that a child in Nick's class at school has

hep A. I called the immuno when the school contacted me and he said Nick is

okay because the treatment for Hep A exposure is IVIG. I feel relieved but at

the same time I still worry, you know?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Amy, mom to Nick CVID, 5 years old.
