Guest guest
Dear Cheryl thank you for your response! don't you have any problems with weight groth or smth? When I start to take gleevec I've noticed that I gain weight easily. Just a couple of dinners with deserts after 8 p.m. and voila here it is( excess weight on my sides( > > Eva... > > The one I am on is called Portia (that's the generic name) it is Levonorgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol tablets and they can be prescribed in 21 or 28 day cycles.. > > I hope this helps you > > Cheryl > > > __________________________________________________________________ > The new Internet Explorer® 8 - Faster, safer, easier. Guest guest
Eva...I have only been on Gleevac since the beginning of Dec '09 - but no - if anything I have lost weight...some due to the stress of the diagnosis and some because I have changed my diet - I used to drink Coke and eat white bread and lots of sugar...probably didnt help in getting the disease...but now all I drink is water and some orange juice when I take my iron pills...I eat only whole grain bread and more veggies and fruits...no desserts - and only the occasional fast food burger...I am only on the birth control now to control a " period from hell " that made my hemoglobin so low that I needed 10 units of blood over a week's time...now that the bleeding is under control, I am scheduled to have an ablation at the end of February but until then I am on birth control...its not a neccessity for me otherwise since my husband has already had a vasectomy, but the ob-gyn did tell me that anyone younger who is on this med should be on birth control...hope this helps! Guest guest
... Thanks for the input...we did discuss a hysterectomy with the ob-gyn however, he advised against it at this time...he said that because I have had 3 previous c-sections he would have to go back through the scar tissue and not be able to do it vaginally...that would pose additional risks he didn't feel were necessary at this time - 1 a hospital stay that would put me in contact with all kinds of bacteria - 2 - a higher risk of infection because of the open wound and -3 - blood thinners because of the risk of DVT...all of which he wasn't willing to do at this time...he advised that this would be the best first option and to give it a chance to work first...then if need be...a hysterectomy... Guest guest
Thank you Cheryl for sharing your experience.. I used to have healthy diet mostly. I haven't drunk any cokes or packet juices for years and haven't eaten meat, only sweet things sometimes. But since I started gleevec my metabolism has changed somehow( I gave birth to daughter in natural way without epidural anesthesia... and I hoped that everything would fine and I would have more children. So I do now. I still hope to have more children after several years. So that's why vasectomy or hysterectomy are not solution for me and my husband.. Good luck to you > > > > > > Eva... > > > > > > The one I am on is called Portia (that's the generic name) it is Levonorgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol tablets and they can be prescribed in 21 or 28 day cycles.. > > > > > > I hope this helps you > > > > > > Cheryl > > > > > > > > > __________________________________________________________________ > > > The new Internet Explorer® 8 - Faster, safer, easier.
