Guest guest
I was on the birth control pill for about 2 years while on Gleevec. I was also advised that it was not a good combo. I ended up discontinuing the pill because of the horrible headaches I would get on it. My husband and I started using condoms and ended up pregnant a few months later. SO, I would suggest looking into some sort of IUD or other more foolproof device were I you. That being said, I have a beautiful and 100% healthy, 3 month old baby girl (Isabella) who is my little miracle. I was on 400mg/day gleevec for the first 10 weeks, taken off Gleevec completely at that time and then back on because of rising counts at 24 weeks. After delivery I stopped the gleevec for 10 days so that I could nurse part time and when my daughter was 1.5 months I was upped to 600mg to jump-start my response and help me get back to 0. :}
Guest guest
Thanks Eva! An IUD is an Intra Uterine Device, a kind of birth control that can be implanted and used for several years. There are ones with and without hormones. You can find out more through google I'm sure. They have their own issues but for some people they are the right answer. :} ________________________________ From: Eva <evaklish@...> Sent: Tue, February 2, 2010 12:49:19 PM Subject: [ ] Re: gleevec and oral contraceptives  Dear ! I'm very happy to know your wonderful story) You are very brave woman! I wish you and your daughter strong health and all the best in the world) I had a chance to feed my girl for 9 months untill I've known about my diagnosis. Ans I still hope to have more children. What is IUD? (I'm sorry, my English is not very good and sometimes I don't understand some abbreviation or medical terms.)
